GROW YOUR OWN MICROGREENS !!! ๐๐ฑโ๏ธ
On a popular demand, I am delighted to share how to grow your own microgreens in a very easy and simple way in this quarantine period.
( Actually for the best results we need to order online our own beginner's microgreen kit from Green Education Organization or any other suppliers) So it becomes very easy to grow as they provide with all the necessary items, but my dear friends don't worry at all. I know very well as we are in Quarantine time so can't order anything online right now hence I am making it simpler to grow them at home with our basic garden items.
Kindly follow the below steps to Grow Your Own MICROGREENS ๐๐ฑโ๏ธ
Microgreen Growing equipments:
1.A shallow tray of some sort like earthen shallow box or wooden shallow tray or Tupperware shallow boxes ( no deep pots )
2. Organic fertile soil to fill the tray. ( Best is 60% vermicompost and 40% cocopeat)
3. Preferably east-facing window or any window sill from where morning sunlight comes ( strictly no direct sunlight) or a shady warm area in your balcony.
4. Small Seeds available at home right now like black or red small mustard seeds( rai ) ,chia seeds, sabza seeds, cumin seeds, methi or any small seeds available at home. Incase you have Microgreen seeds then it's excellent.
5. Filter water ( best to use a spray bottle to water it )
Method : How to Grow Microgreens:๐
1. Find a east-facing window sill with plenty of sunlight coming ( strictly no direct sunlight as Microgreens are delicate so gets damaged) or a shady warm area of your balcony.
2. Place an inch of organic potting soil in the bottom of a shallow tray or planter and smooth out to be as even as possible.
3. Scatter seeds over the surface of the soil evenly. You will spread more seeds than you would if just planting the seeds to grow to full size, since they will only get 1-2 inches tall and you want to harvest as many as possible from each tray. TIP: Soaking the seeds overnight will speed sprouting time, but make it more difficult to scatter them.
4. Again Cover the seeds with a thin layer of soil and spray the surface with clean, filtered water. Put sufficient water, nor too less neither too much. ( When you touch the soil , it should be damp ) I use an upcycled glass vinegar bottle with a misting spray top or a water spray bottle.
5. Now leave the tray next to window sill.
6. Next day spray very little water and keep the soil evenly moist every day ( don't add too much water ) while waiting for the seeds to germinate.
7. Greens are usually ready to harvest in 1-3 weeks, depending on the type of seed used.
8. To grow another crop, either remove the roots and replant or dump the entire tray in the compost and fill with more soil to replant. If you dump in the compost, some straggler seeds usually volunteer and make a crop of their own a few weeks later.
To use:
Cut microgreens right above soil level with kitchen shears. Rinse with filtered water or take filter water+ one tsp of apple cider vinegar or organic vinegar in a container, soak the microgreens in it and then add to salads, buttermilk or to garnish almost any dish. Enjoy๐
If any confusion, kindly pm me. Will try to post a video of it soon ๐.
Vvimp: Kindly share your Microgreen pictures once it's grown ๐
