Menopause. UK news is reporting a shortage of supply of HRT which is causing concern for many women, no doubt adding to the emotional upheaval they feel during menopause too. The physical symptoms of the menopause are certainly not comfortable, and with that too there can be a raft of changing emotions and chaotic thinking.

Bach flowers can help you to emotionally cope with what is going on with your body, and reclaim the inner resources to help accommodate and adjust to this significant life stage.

A few examples of the Bach flowers that women have found pertinent during menopause are:

Mood swings — Scleranthus, Cherry Plum
Irritability — Impatiens, Beech
Anger — Willow, Cherry Plum, Holly
Self-perception — Crab Apple, Pine, Rock Water
Fatigue — Olive, Oak, Centaury, Wild Rose
Brain fog — Clematis, Chestunut Bud, Hornbeam
Anxiety — Aspen, Mimulus, Rock Rose
Sadness — Gentian, Mustard, Gorse

Sometimes too if there is a grieving or longing for what was then Honeysuckle. Walnut to aid in adjusting to change. And if it all feels rather traumatic then Star of Bethlehem. Many women carry the crisis formula around with them so if they’re having a hot flush at an inopportune moment, it helps to remain calm and composed — and maybe even laugh it off as a “power surge”! A lot of emotional energy goes into denying how we really feel inside during those public moments, and when we take that pressure off ourselves and acknowledge it, it helps us breathe out and relax more.

The Bach flowers listed above are only a very tiny snapshot from the 38 flowers. So I’d suggest you don’t go rushing out to buy remedies until you’ve clearly identified your emotions and can accurately match those to the corresponding flowers that are right for you. You can have up to 7 in your personal mix. You might also find talking to a Bach Foundation Registered Practitioner a good way to learn more about the flowers and yourself.

What is your experience of using any of the Bach flowers during menopause? 🌺

Yesterday was World Earth Day and I’ve been reflecting on how determined Dr Bach was to find a system of healing in nature. He intuitively knew (which was informed too by his earlier medical research) that there was a synergy to be found between nature and humanity which could be life-enhancing.

It is just over 100 years since Dr Bach first began his research, and we live in a world where remaining blind to the health of the planet is prevalent and chaos, wars and illness perpetuate. When the world feels dark, shine a light. Be a light.

Dr Bach was that light for the very ill soldiers returning from the trenches of WW1 by using the Bach bowel nosodes to great effect. However, he had another vision.

“It had ever been his wish to replace the products of disease (the intestinal bacteria for the nosodes) by purer remedies…. He set himself to discover the new remedies amongst the plants and herbs of Nature…” wrote Nora Weeks in The Medical Discoveries of Dr Edward Bach.

In a paper that was published in the BHJ in 1929, Dr Bach wrote, “the remedies of the meadow and of Nature, when potentised are of positive polarity; whereas those which have been associated with disease are of the reverse type….” It was two years later that he discovered the new form of potentisation (the sun method).

He went on to say: “Science is tending to show that life is harmony — a state of being in tune — and that disease is discord or a condition when a part of the whole is not vibrating in unison.”

We are each the microcosm of the macrocosm, nothing exists in isolation. The Earth is still a long way from being harmonious, as are its inhabitants. Imagine if the Earth was resonating at the highest purest frequency… 🌺
