Go Power Nutrition- Vision and Mission
Go Power Nutrition is a start-up company, registered under the Companies Act on the 17th of August 2015, and also has an FSSAI registration as an FBO (registration number-21216177000002) Go Power provides a tasty healthy snack, rich in protein – HAPPY BAR – to children in need in the Indian society. The ingredients in the snack are formulated to encounter PEM
(Protein Energy Malnutrition) and increase calorie intake in both children and adults. A lot of research has gone into the formulation of HAPPY BAR to ensure locally available, all vegetable ingredients are used in the best possible proportions to ensure maximum benefit. Almost half of all childhood deaths globally are related to malnutrition. In India the diet of the poorer population is high in carbohydrates and low in protein leading to stunting, suboptimal neurological and intellectual development and inability to repair tissue. Proteins are the building blocks of all cells and are critical for production of antibodies, hormones, enzymes and even connective tissue. It helps store amino acids, helps in muscle movement, and is the vehicle to transport substances within the body. Adding protein is always beneficial to a substandard diet at any age. Research has proved time and again that there is a very strong relationship between Health, Nutrition and Education and a lack in any one field affects the other two factors. In our country we have a number of organisations working among children and their focus exclusively is on Education or Health, with little or no attention being paid to the nutrition of the child. Go Power Nutrition intends to come alongside any organization working among underprivileged children and help them strengthen and fortify their work by adding the nutritional aspect to their already existing programme. Since the last thirty six months HAPPY BAR is being provided from three distribution points in Tamil Nadu, to 5 village after school tuition programs, a children’s hostel and an adult hospice centre. In Bangalore the snack is being provided to an orphanage for children who are HIV positive and a school for underprivileged children from the slums of Doddigunta, since the last 20 months. The benefits to health and schooling have been very obvious. Tracked by height and weight children have gained in percentiles as per standards accepted by the Indian Government grouped in terms of age and sex. As an organization, though our heart is for the underprivileged, we intend to be self-sustaining by selling our products commercially wherever possible and channelise the profits thus made not only to provide more HAPPY BARS to the needy but also sustain the production facility. Test marketing has been conducted and children, even from slums, have been willing to pay a nominal amount for the bars. We believe this is made more possible when
the children, their parents and teachers are more informed about aspects of nutrition. We highlight and teach the
importance of protein in their physical and mental development to include energy for school and play. Awareness
of the benefits of protein in one’s diet combined with taste of the bar has resulted in the children being more
discerning and wanting to have or even buy the snack. To aid our vision we have our commercial bar ‘Go Power Snack Bar’ which is a high protein and high energy
snack bar containing proteinaceous peanut and indigenous high energy carbohydrate such as jaggery targeted at
people who require quick energy and a source of protein, but do not have the time for a meal or to prepare one. These bars provide instant food energy. Protein bars are mainly used by athletes or exercise enthusiasts for muscle
building. In the fitness and medical fields, it is generally accepted that protein in- take after exercise helps to build
the muscles used, and that is what the Go Power Bar aims to do.
