Oral cancer has become a significant public health concern in India, where cases continue to rise at an alarming rate.
In this video, Dr. Honey Ashok - Senior Consultant, Department of ENT and head neck oncosurgery at Sakra World Hospital, talks about the oral cancer epidemic in India.
India, unfortunately, leads globally in oral cancer incidence, with to***co use in both smoked and smokeless forms being the primary driving factor behind this epidemic. Alongside to***co, chronic irritation from sharp teeth or poorly fitting dental restorations can also contribute to long-term tissue damage that increases risk when combined with other habits.
Deep-rooted societal acceptance of to***co use in certain communities further complicates prevention, making awareness and early screening even more essential.
With sustained education, timely dental care, and stronger lifestyle changes, we can work together toward reducing this burden and protecting more lives with hope and healing.
