One day, Tenali Rama and his friend were lounging on a hammock by the sea, enjoying the cool breeze. As they relaxed, smiling at the moment, Tenali asked his friend, “What’s making you smile so much?”
His friend replied that he was imagining the future — a house by the sea, a comfortable car, a big bank balance, a beautiful wife, and four sons who would earn a lot of money. “Only then,” he said, “will I truly feel happy.”
Tenali paused and asked, “And after you get all of this, what will you do?” His friend answered, “I’ll sit back, put my feet up, and enjoy the breeze.”
Tenali laughed and said, “But aren’t you already doing that right now?”
We often get so wrapped up in chasing future milestones that we forget to appreciate the joy available to us in this very moment.
Happiness isn’t a destination. It’s in the moments we’re already living. Let’s choose to embrace them now.
