In 2024, 45% of women who took the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale on the 1to1help platform showed signs of postpartum depression. Another 32% showed early warning signs, and 24% reported experiencing baby blues.

In India, 22% of mothers experience postpartum depression, with the number rising to 26% in urban areas (WHO Bulletin).

This Maternity Mental Health Day, we are shining a light on the emotional challenges that often go unseen after childbirth. By opening up the conversation and normalising support, weโ€™re ensuring that no mother has to navigate this journey alone.

Real conversations donโ€™t always happen in boardrooms. Sometimes, they happen across a small table, in a corner booth, or at events like SurgeHR Pune.

Thatโ€™s where we were on April 29, 2025โ€”listening more than speaking, asking thoughtful questions, and connecting with people who genuinely care about creating workplaces where employees feel seen, heard, and supported.

What stood out was not just the interest in mental health, but the growing willingness to weave it into the everyday rhythm of work life. HR leaders from different companies shared stories of employees and of their own desire to offer support that feels accessible, human, and timely.

And thatโ€™s what makes spaces like these so meaningful. They remind us that employee well-being isnโ€™t just a topic for annual reports or workshops. Itโ€™s a daily need, and every conversation helps move us closer to normalising it at work.

What does it really take to build emotionally resilient and psychologically safe workplaces?

At our recent hashtag roundtableโ€”part of Mindspring Series 17โ€”we brought together 25+ HR leaders from across sectors like telecom, pharma, aviation, consulting, and startups. The conversations were raw, honest, and deeply needed.

A few takeaways struck a chord:

1. Weekly employee check-ins arenโ€™t a โ€˜nice to haveโ€™โ€”theyโ€™re a must.
2. Managers need to be more than supervisorsโ€”they need to be coaches.
3. Psychological safety is built in everyday moments: informal chats, listening without judgement, and showing up with empathy.

The group reflected on how burnout in India runs deeperโ€”long hours, commutes, lack of social security, and a culture where saying โ€œnoโ€ still feels risky.

We heard powerful examples of organisations removing cabin culture, creating safe spaces without linking everything to ROI, and even celebrating failures as learning moments.

One question lingered: Is your workplace one where people feel safe to speak upโ€”without fear, without filters?

This month, 1to1help.net had the honour of being the Emotional Well-being Partner at the Wellbeing at Work World Summit India, held across Mumbai and Bengaluru.

Drawing from our recently launched State of BV Emotional Well-being in India report, both sessions unpacked key insights and analytics around the mental health challenges faced by working professionals today. From burnout trends to rising anxiety, the conversations were backed by data, and even reflections from leading publications that have spotlighted India's evolving mental health landscape.
