Being a Gold Medallist, Dr. Shaila Kumar obtained her B.D.S. in 1994 from Government Dental College, Bangalore. She consequently moved to the U.S. where she completed a 6 month certificate program from the University of Michigan in Orthodontics. She then did a Masters in Advanced Education in General Dentistry (AEGD), a two year residency program at UCLA (University of California at Los Angeles). As a licensed practitioner in California, she practiced for about 7 years in Fairfield, Fremont and Livermore. During this period, she took up Continuing Education (CE) courses in all aspects of Dentistry to enhance her skills. She was trained by Dr. Chris Pescatore, Danville, CA, a leader in his field of Cosmetic Dentistry. She returned to Bangalore with her family and set up Smile Needs Dental Group in the year 2006. It is a State-of-the-Art Multi-Specialty Dental Facility located about 6 kilometers from ITPL, Bangalore and about 6 kms from the old airport. Dr. Shaila Kumar also recently completed her Nobel fellowship in Implant and Esthetic Dentistry offered by Nobelbiocare. She has finished a Diploma in Laser Dentistry under the able guidance of Dr. Suchetan Pradhan, Mumbai-India, a pioneer in Laser Dentistry in India and President of Indian Academy of Laser Dentistry (IALD). Dr. Shaila Kumar is committed to quality dentistry and a high standard of care. She believes in educating her patients about the dental needs and making them aware of the importance of treatment. Prevention is definitely better than cure and to ensure this, she also has a recall system in place for all her patients. Dr. Shaila Kumar is a current member of IDA (Indian Dental Association) and IALD (Indian Academy of Laser Dentistry). She has been a member of ADA(American Dental Association), IDA, IALD, CDA (California Dental Association) and SACDS (Southern Alameda County Dental Society). She also conducts Oral Hygiene programs for school children and corporates. Dr. Shaila Kumar is supported in all her endeavors by her husband Shiva C. Kumar, who is an Electronics and Computer Science Engineer and is currently working as a Director in a Healthcare IT Company. She is also a proud mother of 3 children. In her spare time she likes to read. She also enjoys dance and music. She has travelled the world extensively and loves to experience the various cultures around the world.
