As we step into 𝗦𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗼𝘀𝗶𝘀 𝗔𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗠𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗵 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗝𝘂𝗻𝗲, awareness begins with understanding, because myths can delay recognition, while facts can change outcomes.
Did you know that approximately 80-85% of scoliosis cases are classified as Idiopathic Scoliosis, meaning the exact cause remains unknown?

Despite advances in research, scoliosis continues to be surrounded by misconceptions that can delay recognition and intervention.

𝗟𝗲𝘁'𝘀 𝗮𝗱𝗱𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗼𝗻 𝗺𝘆𝘁𝗵𝘀:
❓ 𝙈𝙮𝙩𝙝: Poor posture causes scoliosis.
✅ 𝙁𝙖𝙘𝙩: Poor posture does not cause structural scoliosis. While posture may influence appearance, most scoliosis cases develop due to factors that researchers are still working to fully understand.

❓ 𝙈𝙮𝙩𝙝: Scoliosis is always hereditary.
✅ 𝙁𝙖𝙘𝙩: Genetics play an important role, but many individuals diagnosed with scoliosis have no known family history.

❓ 𝙈𝙮𝙩𝙝: Scoliosis always causes pain.
✅ 𝙁𝙖𝙘𝙩: Many cases with scoliosis experience little or no pain, making visual screening and regular observation especially important.

❓ 𝙈𝙮𝙩𝙝: Sports or physical activity cause scoliosis.
✅ 𝙁𝙖𝙘𝙩: There is no evidence that participation in sports, dance, or exercise causes scoliosis. In fact, maintaining physical activity is beneficial for overall health and well-being.

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗱𝗼 𝘄𝗲 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗮𝘂𝘀𝗲𝘀?
Current evidence suggests scoliosis may result from a complex interaction of:
🔎 Genetic predisposition
🔎 Growth-related factors during adolescence
🔎 Neuromuscular influences
🔎 Biomechanical factors affecting spinal development
🔎 Hormonal and connective tissue mechanisms
The reality is that scoliosis is not caused by poor parenting, heavy school bags, sleeping positions, or "bad habits."

𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗮𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀
Since many individuals may not experience pain in the early stages, the first signs are often visible:
💡 Uneven shoulders
💡 Uneven hips
💡 Rib prominence
💡 Changes in posture or body symmetry
Early recognition and appropriate assessment can help guide timely management and support better long-term outcomes.

Pain relief is easy to promise.
Understanding why the pain keeps returning, that’s where 🩺real therapy begins.

Managing Symptoms 🆚 Correcting Movement Dysfunction

Manual / Conventional Approach:
⏳ Focuses mainly on reducing discomfort temporarily
⏳Rest, oils, pain balms, heat packs, random stretches
⏳ Movement patterns and muscle imbalance may remain unchanged

Myofascial Therapy Approach:
👉Works on muscle activation and release together
👉 Improves posture, movement efficiency, and mobility
👉 Helps reduce recurrence by correcting underlying dysfunction
👉 Supports active recovery instead of dependency on temporary relief

🌀Have you tried massages, pain balms, or rest… but the stiffness still comes back?
Comment “YES” to understand what your body may actually need.

When you cross 40, your body slowly begins to ask for help.
Have you heard the cry?

Common Challenges:
* Back and neck stiffness
* Painful and slow mornings
* Reduced flexibility and mobility
* Difficulty standing or walking for long durations
* Poor balance and increased fatigue
* Reduced confidence in movement and daily activities

How Physiotherapy Can Help:
* Improve posture and spinal alignment
* Restore flexibility and joint mobility
* Strengthen postural muscles
* Enhance breathing capacity and balance
* Reduce pain and stiffness
* Help you move with greater ease and confidence throughout the day

"Forward-bending posture" is often a silent sign that the body is losing mobility, strength, and postural support over time. Left unaddressed, it can gradually affect confidence, independence, and overall quality of life.

Because healthy aging begins when you start listening to your body before it stops asking gently.

Attending my niece Nimisha Shenoy’s Rangapravesha, felt far more emotional than I had imagined.

As I watched her perform so gracefully, I suddenly felt like I was reliving a part of my own life all over again. I performed in a similar way back in December 1993 and sitting there watching her perform, memories just came flooding back.

She performed beautifully.

But what overwhelmed me even more was everything behind the performance. The years of discipline, consistency, determination, repetition, patience, and silent hard work.

When the chief guests 𝗦𝗿𝗶 𝗦𝘂𝗱𝗵𝗶𝗿 𝗥𝗮𝗼 𝗞𝗼𝗱𝗮𝘃𝗼𝗼𝗿 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗦𝗺𝘁.𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗮𝘀𝗶 𝗦𝘂𝗱𝗵𝗶𝗿, 𝘀𝗮𝗶𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗚𝘂𝗿𝘂 𝗩𝗶𝗱𝘆𝗮𝘀𝗵𝗿𝗲𝗲 𝗥𝗮𝗱𝗵𝗮𝗸𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗵𝗻𝗮, 𝗚𝗮𝗻𝗮 𝗡𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆𝗮 𝗔𝗰𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗺𝘆 had “sculpted the little girl into now a graceful dancer,” something deeply struck me.

I realized in a different way, that is what I now do every day at my clinic too.

Back then, Bharatanatyam taught us to repeat the same adavus over and over again, sometimes monotonously, without realizing how strongly they were building our foundation.

Today, through the , I see those very same lessons unfold every day. Repeating corrective exercises consistently, again and again slowly builds strength, posture, stability, and resilience in children with .

Dance unknowingly prepared me for this path with , . And above all, it taught me not to give up.

Sometimes I feel I didn’t “stop” Bharatanatyam after starting my clinic 12 years ago. I simply transformed its essence into another form of healing and dedication.

And behind every dancer, every child, every journey, there is always a family quietly standing strong.

Old photographs from my memory lane resurfaced.

Back then, my parents, especially my mother, Ms. Veena Kamath, and brother did that for me.

Today, I watched my cousin and family 𝗦𝗺𝘁. 𝗦𝘂𝗺𝗮𝗻 𝗡𝗮𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗵 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗦𝗿𝗶 𝗡𝗮𝗺𝗼 𝗡𝗮𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗵 𝗦𝗵𝗲𝗻𝗼𝘆 do the same for my niece with so much love and commitment.

And every day at my clinic, I see parents doing exactly that for their children too. Showing up consistently, trusting the process, working as a team, and doing everything possible for their child’s well-being.

Watching all this made me realize the healing, growth and strength people standing beside you bring in to the individual throughout the journey.

Bharatanatyam creates strong human beings, like my 𝗟𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗚𝘂𝗿𝘂 𝗦𝗺𝘁 𝗞𝗮𝗺𝗮𝗹𝗮 𝗕𝗵𝗮𝘁, 𝗡𝗮𝘁𝘆𝗮𝗹𝘆𝗮 𝗨𝗿𝘄𝗮 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗮𝗹𝗼𝗿𝗲, did for me.

Somewhere Dance became prayer. Through abhinaya, rhythm, devotion, you unknowingly spending years in the presence of the divine.

To my dear niece Nimisha, may this be just the beginning of a long, meaningful, and beautiful journey ahead. 🌸

You made all of us proud and reminded me of a part of myself.

‘Forward bending’ posture is more than just a change in appearance.
Over time, it can affect breathing efficiency, balance, mobility, confidence, and overall quality of life.

⏳ The encouraging part?
Early physiotherapy intervention and posture-specific rehabilitation can help slow progression, improve alignment, and restore functional movement.

💡 Watch out for these early signs:
🚫 Rounded upper back while standing or walking
🚫 Difficulty standing upright for long durations
🚫 Neck or upper back fatigue
🚫 Reduced balance or walking confidence
🚫 Shortness of breath during activity
🚫 Difficulty resting the head comfortably while lying flat

Your spine adapts to the habits you repeat daily.
The earlier you address posture changes, the better the long-term outcome.
Think posture changes are “just age-related”?

In many cases, the first recommendation is to simply “wait and watch.” But during years, this can allow the condition to quietly progress, sometimes reaching a stage where optimal correction becomes significantly more challenging.

• Early detection can significantly alter the course of progression
• Growth years offer a critical window for corrective intervention
• Consistent, guided physiotherapy can support both correction and stability.

As the saying goes, “𝘼 𝙨𝙩𝙞𝙩𝙘𝙝 𝙞𝙣 𝙩𝙞𝙢𝙚, 𝙨𝙖𝙫𝙚𝙨 𝙣𝙞𝙣𝙚”. And that timely step helped shape a healthier more stable future. What started as a visible concern became a story of control, and for both the patient and the family.

Cases like this don’t just validate the method, they bring a larger vision to life.

Forward bending isn’t just about flexibility, it’s about control.
When your posture collapses forward, your spine absorbs stress it wasn’t designed for.

Over time, this can lead:
👉 Stiffness,
👉 Discomfort, and
👉 Reduced mobility.

Quick Self-Management Tips:
📍Hinge, don’t hunch
✅ Bend from your hips, not your upper back. Keep your spine long.

📍Engage your core
✅ A gentle abdominal brace supports your lower back during movement.

📍Use support wisely
✅ A wall or barre (like in the image) can guide alignment and prevent overstrain.

📍Move within comfort
✅ Stretch ≠ pain. Stay in a range you can control and breathe through.

📍Reset often
✅ If you sit long hours, stand, extend, and realign your posture every 45–60 mins.

Take care of your spine now, so it can take care of you later.

Did you know that your posture quietly affects your breathing, , and daily comfort.
Across ages, one thing is common:
👉 The body adapts… until it can’t.

Pause for a second right now:
Where is your head?
Are your shoulders relaxed or falling forward?

We don’t notice posture when it starts changing…
We notice it when it starts hurting.

🚨 Quick Check:
Sit or stand straight and align your ears over your .
How did that feel?

Neck & shoulder pain isn’t “part of the job.”
It’s a warning sign.

Daily screen time, hours of desk work and “just adjusting a little” - it all adds up faster than you think. What feels like a small discomfort today can quietly turn into *chronic pain* tomorrow.
This is the need of the hour: Awareness + Correction.

Small corrections. Big difference.
Your body will thank you later.

🌀 If you’ve been ignoring that “small” discomfort, now is the time to act.

How many hours do you spend sitting daily? Take the poll and let us know 👇
“Let hear honestly from each one of you. How’s your desk posture right now?”

📍Sitting straight 👍
📍Slightly slouched 😬
📍Fully hunched 😓
📍Didn’t even realise until now 😅
