To remove or preserve?

That is the question many women face when planning a hysterectomy.

While a hysterectomy involves the removal of the uterus, the decision to remove the ovaries (oophorectomy) is not one-size-fits-all. According to medical guidelines, the approach depends on your specific risk factors:

🔴 High-Risk Women: Those with genetic mutations (BRCA1/2), Lynch syndrome, or a strong family history of ovarian/breast cancer are often advised to undergo oophorectomy to reduce cancer risk.

🟢 General Population: For most women without these specific risks, preserving the ovaries until age 55 offers significant long-term benefits for:

❤️ Heart Health

🦴 Bone Density

🧠 Brain Health

👩‍❤️‍👨 Sexual Well-being

Every woman’s body and health history is unique. Always discuss these options thoroughly with your specialist.

A young, unmarried patient presented to us with severe symptoms:

💔 Heavy Menstrual Bleeding

🩸 Anemia

😫 Severe Dysmenorrhea (painful periods)

💧 Heavy discharge between periods

She was diagnosed with a large fibroid polyp arising from inside the uterus and prolapsing into the va**na. She had previously been suggested surgery but was hesitant due to the fear of a surgical scar.

Due to subsequent severe anemia, we proceeded with the Hysteroscopic Surgery.

🔬 What is Hysteroscopic Surgery?
It involves placing a camera inside the uterus to visualize and remove the fibroid completely.

The biggest advantage: NO CUTS on the abdomen or private parts, meaning NO SURGICAL SCAR.

It is the preferred, minimally invasive option for fibroids that grow inside the uterine cavity.

🌟 Why Hysteroscopy is the Best Choice:
Complete Removal: Ensures the fibroid is fully excised.

Prevents Recurrence: Reduces the chance of the fibroid growing back.

Preserves Fertility: Protects the uterus, which is crucial for future fertility.

Fibroids causing heavy bleeding and discharge, even in young women, can be treated effectively and minimally invasively with Hysteroscopic Surgery.
