If you haven’t been to Sharief Bhai in Koramangala-Bangalore yet, stop what ever you’re doing and go there right now!

The place specialises in Muslim cuisine offering a wide variety of meat choices. We settled in on the good old mutton biryani and mutton Nalli for the side.
The meat was cooked to perfection and the biryani was beautifully flavoured.
Don’t forget to try out their dessert choices.

This is a small yet popular place, so if you do choose to go there on a weekend, be prepared for a long wait.

Definitely a place we will go back to again!

Visiting Chennai one of the first things we had to do was try out some local biryani. We decided to check the mutton nalli biryani at Hotel Sangam on Mount Road. Let’s start by warning you that the portions are pretty massive. One portion of biryani serves three people. Though the biryani was a tad oily, it was quite flavourful and quite different from the standard mutton biryanis. Definitely worth a try. This dish is however available only on weekends and gets sold out in the first couple of hours. We experienced this first hand! We had a friendly waiter who warned us about the large portions and suggested we order just one to start with. Full marks for service.

We were recommended the Kerala chicken fry as an accompaniment. It was pretty average and definitely had nothing Kerala about it. Worth a miss.

Overall it was a pretty good dinner. If you’re a mutton biryani lover and in Chennai, definitely give this a shot.

BB's explored The Toddy House in 5th block Kormangala this weekend.

We ordered the Gongura Mutton Fry and the Moplah Biryani.
The mutton fry which came with fried shallots and curry leaves had a good taste but the meat was slightly undercooked and hard to bite into.
The Moplah Biryani was something we were looking forward to but were totally disappointed with what was served.
First of all they served us the chicken variety when we ordered for the mutton. The chicken pieces were overcooked and hard and the rice tasted of a lot of butter and nothing much else. The raitha served with the biryani was way too sweet.
This is definitely a place we don't want to go back to.

BB rating - 1/5 (some credit for the outdoorsy seating and the nice cutlery)

Our weekend biryani stop was "Donne biryani house" on Residency Road, Bangalore
We ordered:
Chicken biryani, mutton biryani, chilli chicken and chicken lollipop.

What we think of it: the Donne biryani was 'OK'. It wasn't special on any account. Some of us even felt uncomfortably stuffed for hours after eating the biryani.
The chicken lollipop seemed to have a lot of artificial colour added to it.
Cost : ₹720 for four people.
We rate the place a 2/5.

P.s apologies for the low quality picture. We were so hungry when we reached the place that we remembered to take a picture only half way through the meal. 😬

Move over, it's the battle of the Biryani's!

"My conclusion, at the end of The Great Biryani Hunt, was that biryani was invented in India. Certainly, nothing like it existed anywhere else in the world during the medieval era."

This royal rice dish continues to be the quintessential palate pleaser irrespective of debates about its form and origin
