Summer Kidney Stone Prevention Tips!
Hot weather increases the risk of kidney stones, so take these precautions to stay safe!
1. Stay Hydrated
Drink at least 2.5–3 liters of water daily.
Add lemon water (natural citrate helps prevent stones).
2. Avoid Dehydration
Increase water intake if sweating a lot.
Carry a water bottle & sip throughout the day.
3. Cut Down on Salt & Sugar
High salt intake increases calcium in urine → risk of stones!
Reduce processed foods, chips, canned soups, and soft drinks.
4. Limit Oxalate-Rich Foods (for those prone to calcium oxalate stones)
Eat spinach, beets, nuts, and chocolate in moderation.
Balance them with calcium-rich foods (dairy, tofu) to reduce oxalate absorption.
5. Drink Coconut Water & Buttermilk
Natural hydrating drinks that help flush out toxins.
Diluted lemon juice also helps prevent stone formation.
6. Control Animal Protein Intake
Excess red meat, eggs & seafood increase uric acid stones.
Opt for plant-based protein or moderate lean meat.
7. Monitor Urine Colour
Dark yellow urine = dehydration risk!
Aim for light pale yellow urine to stay stone-free.
8. Exercise & Maintain a Healthy Weight
Obesity & sedentary lifestyle increase kidney stone risk.
Regular physical activity helps maintain balance.
