Resource-Limited Rural ICU Saves Elderly Patient: Successful Critical Multi-Organ Dysfunction Patient Managed.

In Jharkhand's rural ICU, a 72-year-old with severe congestive heart failure in sepsis & shock was stabilised, ventilated, and received renal replacement therapy alongside antibiotics. Despite high mortality risks and limited resources, our dedicated team successfully managed the complex case, leading to the patient’s full recovery and discharge.

A 72-year-old patient presented to our emergency department in a semiconscious state, suffering from severe breathing difficulties. Immediately stabilized and transferred to the ICU, the patient was placed on mechanical ventilation and inotropes to manage severe shock secondary to congestive heart failure. A chest X-ray revealed pulmonary edema with ground glass opacities, indicating a superadded infection. Given the complexity of the patient's condition, including acute kidney injury, a hemodialysis line was secured, and renal replacement therapy was initiated. Appropriate antibiotics and other supportive medical measures were administered diligently.
Despite the high mortality rates typically associated with such severe cases in elderly patients and the constraints of a rural, resource-limited setting, our team’s relentless efforts led to significant improvements. The patient was successfully weaned off the ventilator and inotropes and later shifted from the ICU to a ward and subsequently discharged home in stable condition.
This case underscores our ICU’s capability to handle critical cases with expertise and limited resources, highlighting our commitment to providing life-saving care. Such achievements boost morale and demonstrate the impact of dedicated healthcare professionals in rural settings. This story serves as a beacon of hope and a testament to the quality care that rural hospitals can deliver, encouraging hospital owners and doctors everywhere to invest in improving healthcare accessibility and quality in similar settings.

Kanchipuram, well known as the Silk City , owes its reputation to its predominant reliance on the silk industry. The iconic weaving method employed in crafting Kanchipuram silk sarees involves the interweaving of three strands of silk yarn alongside zari threads—silk threads adorned with gold and silver. India stands as the world's second-largest silk producer, accounting for approximately 18% of the global silk output.

Renowned as the Place of Thousand Temples, Kanchipuram is famed for its temple architecture, expansive 1000-pillared halls, and towering temple structures. Among its notable landmarks are the Varadharaja Perumal Temple, Ekambareswarar Temple, Kamakshi Amman Temple, and Kumarakottam Temple, all significant Hindu sanctuaries in the region. Within Kanchipuram lie 15 of the 108 sacred temples dedicated to the Hindu deity Vishnu.

The Varadharaja Perumal Temple, colloquially known as the Lizard Temple, boasts distinctive features including a golden sun face and a prominent golden lizard carving, alongside a silver moon face adorned with smaller lizard carvings on its roof. Legend holds that upon exiting the sanctum after witnessing Varadharaja Swamy, visitors should touch these lizard carvings along with the sun and moon motifs, believed to alleviate ailments and spiritual afflictions.

Kanchipuram is surrounded by 30 + villages. In times of medical emergencies, residents often find themselves compelled to journey to Vellore or Chennai in search of quality ICU services. This journey, spanning over two hours, not only leads to significant delays in treatment, particularly during emergencies but also imposes financial burdens on individuals seeking care from city corporate hospitals.

Through this Initiative, they now can avail CIPACA's International Standard of ICU Services at their door step with 1/4th of the cost compared to city ICU.

Rural ICU major CIPACA has been bestowed with National Level Recognition – Becomes the Best Hospital Turnaround Partners in Maharashtra.

CIPACA expresses its humble gratitude to the jury of the National Healthcare Glory Awards 2022 for recognising the organisation as Best Hospital Turnaround Partners in Maharashtra.

Ever since its inception in 2015, CIPACA has strived to uplift rural hospitals through state-of-the-art ICU services. Having a standardized ICU model, CIPACA has not just boosted the confidence of common people that even the rural hospitals are equipped enough to serve them in medical emergencies at par with metro cities but has also encouraged these hospitals to serve more people and add new healthcare services to deliver to the rural people.

With CIPACA’s presence in three different districts of rural Maharashtra, the ICU services have helped these rural hospitals expand their range of services beyond their estimated capacity, thereby helping them grow 10X.

CIPACA’s positive impact on Basti’s (Uttar Pradesh) rural healthcare system! About 1.4 lakh people of Basti in the largest state of Uttar Pradesh started to receive their first tertiary ICU, thanks to CIPACA – Ananta Hospital partnership. “It has been difficult to manage critical patients without any super specialist in Basti, Uttar Pradesh. We were referring the patients to either Lucknow or Gorakhpur which are 200 km and 60 km away respectively from our place. One can only imagine the situation in case any emergency strikes,” says Dr Ajay Kumar Chaudhary of Ananta Hospital, Uttar Pradesh. India is endowed with 43,000 hospitals. But unfortunately, they lack the ability to run standardised ICU operations in them. Only 2.3 ICU beds are available per 1000 population in India and the majority of these ICU beds are in metro cities only. The outbreak of the pandemic has also increased the need for ICU beds in every town/city. As hospitals are in dire need of ICU operations, Dr Ajay Kumar Chaudhary, Founder and Managing Director of Ananta Hospital, came forward to partner with CIPACA to manage tertiary ICUs in his 50 bedded multi-speciality hospital in the Basti district of Uttar Pradesh. Now, critical patients in the region don’t have to travel long distances for emergency care as the CIPACA-Ananta partnership offers quality ICU at their doorsteps.
