Epileptic Seizures (Epilepsy) – What To Do During a Fit

Epileptic seizures are a common neurological condition. While treatment requires proper medication, today the focus is on what to do if someone has a seizure in front of you.

✅ What You Should Do:

🔹 Make the person lie down safely.
If standing, gently support and lay them down.

🔹 Turn them onto one side (right or left).
This prevents choking if foam or saliva comes out and keeps breathing clear.

🔹 Loosen tight clothes.
Especially around the neck and chest.

🔹 Stay calm and observe.
Most seizures last between 15 seconds to 1–2 minutes and stop on their own.

❌ What You Should NOT Do:

🚫 Do not put a shoe near the nose.
🚫 Do not try to open the mouth forcefully.
🚫 Do not put fingers, spoon, or any object inside the mouth.
🚫 Do not try to tightly hold the hands or legs.

If the tongue comes between the teeth, do not panic. After the seizure stops and the jaw relaxes, the tongue will settle back naturally.

🚑 After the Seizure:

As soon as the episode ends, take the patient to the hospital for proper evaluation and treatment.

Early awareness can save lives. Stay informed. Stay prepared.

Meningitis – Types, Diagnosis & Treatment

Meningitis can be of different types:
🔹 Bacterial Meningitis
🔹 Viral Meningitis
🔹 Fungal Meningitis
🔹 Tubercular (TB) Meningitis

No matter the type, meningitis is a serious but treatable disease. Immediate medical attention is very important because delay can make it life-threatening.

🏥 How is it Diagnosed?

The patient is admitted, and a special test (CSF examination through lumbar puncture) is performed to determine whether the infection is bacterial, viral, fungal, or TB-related.
Based on the report, targeted treatment and therapy are started immediately.

⚠️ Important to Know

Many people think that just having a hot forehead means meningitis — this is not true.
Meningitis occurs when the brain coverings (meninges) become infected, not just with a simple fever.

Early diagnosis + proper treatment = Complete recovery in most cases.

Do not ignore symptoms. Do not delay treatment. Meningitis is treatable if managed on time.

Today, I want to talk about a very common condition. Many patients come to us saying —
“I suddenly got up from bed or went to the bathroom and fell down. I felt completely dizzy, but I regained consciousness within 5–7 seconds.”

This condition is called a Syncopal Attack (Fainting Episode).

⚠️ A syncopal attack is not an epileptic seizure.
It happens when the blood supply to the brain temporarily decreases, causing sudden dizziness and brief loss of consciousness.

🔎 What are the common causes?
• Heart-related problems
• Brain-related conditions
• Sudden drop in blood pressure

You cannot predict when it will happen. That is why repeated fainting episodes should never be ignored.

✅ The good news is — syncopal attacks are treatable.
But the exact cause must be identified first.

If the cause is related to the brain, it can be treated.
If the cause is related to the heart, it can also be treated.

👉 If you experience frequent dizziness or fainting episodes, consult your doctor, neurologist, or neurosurgeon for proper evaluation.

Early diagnosis can prevent serious complications.

🧠 Bathinda Neurospine & Trauma Centre

I am Dr. Ronyl Kaushal from Bathinda Neurospine & Trauma Centre. Today, I want to discuss a very common condition that can sometimes become life-threatening — Headache.

We all experience headaches in our daily lives. But when should you see a doctor?

🔴 1. Sudden, Severe “Thunderclap” Headache
If you suddenly experience the worst headache of your life — like a hard blow to the head — this is known as a thunderclap headache.
It may be accompanied by vomiting or even fainting.
This can occur due to a ruptured brain aneurysm and is a medical emergency. Immediate medical attention is crucial.

🔴 2. Severe Headache with Aura
If your headache is associated with ringing in the ears, dizziness, vision problems, or loss of balance, it could be a severe form of migraine. The good news is that migraine can be treated effectively with proper medication. Do not ignore these warning signs.

🔴 3. Headache with Vomiting & Balance Issues
Many people mistake headache and vomiting for acidity or gas and simply lie down. However, if the headache persists and balance does not improve, it could be an early sign of a stroke (blood clot in the brain).

❗ Never ignore a new, sudden, or unusually severe headache.
Consult a neurosurgeon or neurophysician immediately for proper diagnosis and treatment.
