1st MEDICAL INFORMATION ABOUT TINMIN RANGE :
The symptoms of a common Cold and Flu are Rhinorhoea ( Increased nasal discharge giving rise to runny nose ), sneezing, nasal, congestion, blocked nose, dry cough, headache & body ache. The vast majority of common cold infections resolve without sequalae, but complications like otitis media or acute sinusitis can develop in some patients.
Cough is a protective respiratory reflex for clearing the tracheobronchial tree of secretions and foreign material. However, when excessive or bothersome, it is also one of the most common symptoms for which medical attention is sought. There are two types of Cough: Non-Productive cough or Dry cough ( Not associated with sputum ) and productive cough ( associated with sputum ).
Drugs available for symptomatic relief of common cold are Decongestant, Antihistaminic, Analgesic & Antitussive.
Decongestant – Phenylephrine is a sympathomimetic agent and alpha-receptor against. It activates adrenergic receptors in venous vessels in nasal mucosa which reduces nasal congestion and decreases the resistance to airflow in nasal cavity.
Antihistaminic – Chlorpheniramine maleate is an antihistamine which helps to provide relief of runny nose, sneezing, watery and itchy eyes.
Paracetamol is an analgesic and antipyretic used for management of fever and pain. It produces analgesia by elevating pain threshold & antipyresis through action on the heat-regulating center in hypothalamus.
Dextromethorphan is an antitussive agent. It acts centrally and elevates threshold for coughing. It provides relief from cough due to minor throat irritations associated with common cold. It does not inhibit ciliary activity in respiratory tract.
As definitive therapies are not available for the treatment of common cold and flu, symptomatic relief can be obtained by administration of combinations of decongestant, antihistaminic, analgesic & antitussive.
