Palm oil bad increases cholesterol, according to a study published in The Journal of Nutrition. This is why people with high cholesterol should avoid this oil intake.

Oil is used very much in Indian food, which directly affects your health. But there is an oil that uses your cholesterol levels rapidly. Increasing bad cholesterol in the body causes nerves to be blocked, which increases the risk of heart-related diseases and stroke multiple times. Yes, talking about palm oil. Palm oil is made from palm trees. This is an edible vegetable oil. Used to make processed food, chips and biscuits. But when the heavy amount of this oil goes inside your body it increases your cholesterol level faster.

4 Essential Vitamins That You Should Consume This Winter

1. Vitamin C

During winter, due to the changes in climate, we are more prone to cold and fever. So, eating more Vitamin C rich foods helps you to boost immunity. As it is necessary to maintain good body temperature in winter, the consumption of Vitamin C enriched food will aid in maintaining optimum body temperature. The main Vitamin C rich foods are citrus fruits like oranges, lemon and mosambi. Drinking a glass of lemonade daily will help to boost your immunity level. Apart from citrus fruits, dark green leafy vegetables, tomatoes, pepper, strawberries and amla are also rich in Vitamin C. So, try to add these kinds of fruits and vegetables to your daily diet this season.

2. Vitamin D

It is also known as the 'Sunshine Vitamin' as the main source of Vitamin D is sunlight. Therefore, diseases generated due to Vitamin D deficiency are most common during winter due to less exposure to sunlight. The main function of Vitamin D is the calcium regulation in our body, which means Vitamin D is essential for the absorption of calcium in the body. The main sources of Vitamin D are eggs, milk, butter, and cod liver oil. During noontime, try to expose yourself to sunlight for at least 10-15 minutes. The best time for exposure to sunlight is 10am to 3pm. Vitamin D plays an important role in heart health and immunity as well.

3. Vitamin B

Also known as the super vitamins, they maintain cell

health and keep you energized. Vitamin B is also called

as B complex vitamins as there are various subcategories. The B complex Vitamins are B1- Thiamin, B2 Riboflavin, B3- Niacin, B5- Pantothenic acid, B6- Pyridoxine, B7- Biotin, B9- folic acid, B12- cobalamin. These eight B complex vitamins differ in benefits. B1-Thiamine enables the body to use carbohydrate metabolism. B2- Riboflavin helps to break down carbohydrates, fats and proteins. B3- Niacin helps increase the HDL cholesterol and lowers the LDL cholesterol. B5- pantothenic acid helps in the formation of blood cells. Pyridoxine helps lower the risk for Alzheimer's disease. B7- Biotin helps in keeping our skin, hair and nervous system healthier. B9- folic acid is a very important vitamin during the pregnancy period because it is essential for the formation of foetus' brain, skull and development of the spinal cord. In one word, we can say folic acid is important to avoid foetus neural tube defects. B12 Cobalamin helps to treat Anaemia and bone issues like osteoporosis. Food sources include dark green leafy vegetables, meat, fish, egg, milk and cheese.

4. Vitamin E

Vitamin E is a fat-soluble vitamin that also acts as an antioxidant. During winter, Vitamin E plays an important role in caring for our skin because it helps prevent dryness. Iron requirements to be carefully observed, in the recent revised version of RDA for Indians given by ICMR-NIN👇

The Iron requirements are different in the earlier versions, where during Pregnancy the Iron requirements (35mg/d) were greater than the Adult Women (21mg/d).

In the current version, the Iron requirements for the adult women is 29mg/d, Pregnant Women- 27mg/d, Lactating Women it's 23mg/d.

Hemothorax is a condition where blood accumulates in the pleural cavity (space between the lungs and chest wall) due to chest trauma or injury. It can lead to breathing difficulties and chest pain.

Nutrition Management for Hemothorax:

1. Protein Intake: Adequate protein is essential for tissue repair and wound healing. Include sources of lean proteins such as poultry, fish, legumes, and low-fat dairy in the diet.

2. Vitamin C: This vitamin is crucial for collagen production and tissue repair. Citrus fruits, strawberries, and broccoli are excellent sources of vitamin C.

3. Iron-Rich Foods: In cases of significant blood loss, iron-rich foods can help replenish iron levels. Include foods like red meat, leafy greens, lentils, and fortified cereals.

4. Fluid Intake: Staying hydrated is essential for overall recovery. Drink plenty of water and other hydrating fluids.

Pneumothorax:

Pneumothorax occurs when air leaks into the pleural cavity, causing the lung to collapse partially or completely. It can result from trauma, underlying lung diseases like emphysema, or spontaneous causes.

Nutrition Management for Pneumothorax:

1. Protein and Vitamin C: As with hemothorax, focus on sufficient protein intake and vitamin C to aid tissue repair and healing.

2. Anti-Inflammatory Foods: Incorporate foods with

anti-inflammatory properties, such as fatty fish (salmon,

mackerel), walnuts, and leafy greens, to reduce

inflammation.

3. Breathing Exercises: Work with a respiratory therapist to perform breathing exercises that can help expand the lungs and improve lung function.

Hemopneumothorax: Hemopneumothorax is a combination of both hemothorax and pneumothorax, where both blood and air accumulate in the pleural cavity. It often occurs due to severe chest trauma.

When we eat carbohydrate foods like grains, fruits, vegetables, sugars, etc., it breaks down into glucose, fructose, or fiber, which gets mixed with the blood. Then, blood glucose gets delivered to working cells where it further breaks down into carbon dioxide, and water, releasing ATP, which iis the bodys usable energy. Carbohydrates which are not immediately used for energy are stored in the liver and in the muscle as glycogen. When glucose stores are full, any further excess glucose is converted into fat. Also, when we need energy for working, glycogen breaks down and provides us with instant energy. So, carbohydrates are really important for physical activity, athletic performance, and many other activities.
