क्‍यों किया जाता है गणेश विसर्जन (Ganesh Visarjan)?
गणपति या गणेश विसर्जन को लेकर कई धामिर्क और सामाजिक मान्‍ताएं प्रचलित हैं. ब्रिटिश काल में लोगों में एकता और सौहार्द बढ़ाने के लिए गणेश स्‍थापना और विसर्जन की परंपरा को फिर से शुरू किया गया. वहीं धार्मिक मान्‍यताओं के अनुसार कहा जाता है कि महर्षि वेदव्‍यास ने महाभारत की कथा सुनाने के बाद भगवान गणेश का तेज शांत करने के लिए उन्‍हें सरोवर में डुबोया था. कहा जाता है कि वेदव्‍यास ने गणेश चतुर्थी के दिन से भगवान गणेश को महाभारत की कथा सुनानी शुरू की थी. लगातार 10 दिन तक वेदव्‍यास गणपति को कथा सुनाते रहे और गणेश जी कथा लिखते रहे. जब कथा पूरी हो गई तब वेदव्‍यास ने आंखें खोली तो देखा कि अत्‍यधिक मेहनत की वजह से गणेश जी का तापमान बढ़ा हुआ है.
उनका तपामान कम करने के लिए वेदव्‍यास उन्‍हें पास के सरोवर में ले गए और स्‍नान कराया. उस दिन अनंत चर्तुदशी थी और तब से गणेश प्रतिमा का विसर्जन करने की परंपरा शुरू हो गई.
