Maha Vishuba Sankranti, also known as Pana Sankranti and Vishuba Sankranti, is the Odia people's traditional new year.

- The Odia people on this day visit temples, especially Hanuman temples, as it is the birthday of Lord Hanuman too.

- On Maha Vishuba Sankranti, Odian people prepare a sweet dish or concoction called pana. The name Pana Sankranti comes from this pana. It is made by mixing different fruits, milk, water, curd, Bela, and sugar pulp and distributing it to everyone.

- A small earthen pot filled with this pana is hung on the tulsi (basil) plant as per tradition. A hole is made at the bottom of the pot, from which water drips. This dripping water signifies rain. Another tradition is to eat a mixture of chhatua (horse gram flour) with curd and a banana. These are first offered to the tulsi plant.

Reminiscing about cherished childhood memories, accompanying my grandfather to Mahakali Atakala, presently known as for sattu or chhatua. Those days, my grandmother would craft the most delightful chhatua pana, blending tender grated coconut, cottage cheese, milk, sugar, mango, and a hint of black pepper. It's incredible how such a humble dish can be so fulfilling and nourishing. This wholesome concoction isn't just food; it's a taste of tradition, simplicity, and love In a world of complex recipes and extravagant meals, let's not forget the beauty of dishes that are both simple and nutritious. Each spoonful carries the essence of my roots, a reminder of the joy found in life's simplest pleasures. Here's to the magic of chhatua panda, a delicious journey back to the heart of my childhood
