*An Eye Opener*

*CAN WE BUILD NEW IITs BY JUST WATCHING IPL?*

It comes from Prof. Mayank Shrivastava, Professor at IISc Bengaluru, one of India’s leading researchers.

He asks:

"India doesn’t lack money. Indians don’t lack money. What we lack is the vision to invest in the future."

Just look at the numbers:

📌 IPL 2023 revenue: ₹11,770 crore
📌 BCCI surplus: ₹5,120 crore
📌 3-year IPL profits: ₹15,000 crore
📌 Potential tax (40%): Enough to build 10 new IITs
📌 Franchise profits: ₹800–1,200 crore/year → Tax potential: ₹6,000 crore/year for research

But here’s the irony:

⚠️ BCCI pays no income tax (charitable status)
⚠️ Research labs pay GST on equipment
⚠️ Bollywood, religious trusts, sports leagues = tax breaks

Dr. Shrivastava calls it out: “Entertainment is subsidised. Research is taxed.”

Now the real question:

👉 Why does a cricket board enjoy tax exemption while research institutions struggle for funding?
👉 Why are we taxing microscopes but not match tickets?
👉 If India truly dreams of becoming a tech powerhouse, is this where our money should go?

We cheer for sixes, but who’s cheering for science?

Repost if you think it’s high time India fixed its priorities. *Today’s Food for Thought*

*Definition of "Hospital" by Pope Francis*

POPE FRANCIS always surprises with his reflections:

"The walls of hospitals have heard more honest prayers than churches...
They have witnessed far more sincere kisses than those in airports...
It is in hospitals that you see a homophobe being saved by a gay doctor.
A privileged doctor saving the life of a beggar...
In intensive care, you see a Jew taking care of a racist...
A police officer and a prisoner in the same room receiving the same care...
A wealthy patient waiting for a liver transplant, ready to receive the organ from a poor donor...

It is in these moments, when the hospital touches the wounds of people, that different worlds intersect according to a divine design. And in this communion of destinies, we realize that alone, we are nothing.

The absolute truth of people, most of the time, only reveals itself in moments of pain or in the real threat of an irreversible loss.

A hospital is a place where human beings remove their masks and show themselves as they truly are, in their purest essence.

This life will pass quickly, so do not waste it fighting with people.
Do not criticize your body too much.
Do not complain excessively.
Do not lose sleep over bills.
Make sure to hug your loved ones.
Do not worry too much about keeping the house spotless.
Material goods must be earned by each person—do not dedicate yourself to accumulating an inheritance. . .

You are waiting for too much: Christmas, Friday, next year, when you have money, when love arrives, when everything is perfect...

Listen, perfection does not exist.
A human being cannot attain it because we are simply not made to be fulfilled here.
Here, we are given an opportunity to learn.

So, make the most of this trial of life—and do it now.

Respect yourself, respect others. Walk your own path, and let go of the path others have chosen for you.
Respect: do not comment, do not judge, do not interfere.

Love more, forgive more, embrace more, live more intensely!
And leave the rest in the hands of the Creator."
—Pope Francis

Truth always hurts
I have seen one pair for Renal transplant today in my OPD

After spending over one hour and talking about all details

Patient misunderstood me

Everyone should know the story it should be told to all prospective recipients and donor.
I spent more than one hour explaining everything about the transplant. And issues with your patient. One gentleman came to see me with his wife with a diagnosis of kidney failure and looking for renal transplant who is only in her thirties and mother came as prospective donor who is found to have diabetes with diabetic nephropathy proven by increased 24 hours urinary protein and elderly mother.

All diabetes patient will have kidney function deterioration with time. With age also kidney function decreases and we prefer age matched donor if possible. So I felt and also expressed my concern about her fitness for being donor. If she donates then she will become renal failure patient. So ethically it is not right to harm someone for treatment of another patient. Even if we do the transplant. This kidney will not work properly . I even enquired about her siblings and came to know there are 2 sister and one brother. I requested her to bring all of them and we do test. To look for suitable donor if they are not found suitable then I recommended husband to get evaluated for donation. And his blood group also o positive. He can be definitely one age matched donor .

When we undertake such a big exercise it is my job to estimate the prognosis and outcome. Specifically when any patient undergoes renal transplant then patient need to know that it requires maintenance medication which is quite expensive. So it is our responsibility to look at the financial means for the same. Specially when undergoing this treatment BSKY.

I can see many issues here as after talking to so honestly for more then 1 hour what makes someone so hurt where he does not hesitate to defame me.
One he doesn’t wish to donate and otherwise doesn’t wish to take the responsibility of health of your spouse or mother In law.

A sensible and learned person would have understood the hurdles in the process of transplant and taken corrective measures to safeguard the health of wife and mother in law.
Wife was very smart to understand what is going on . She definitely doesn’t want to take a kidney from her mother and make her mother a patient of kidney failure and dialysis dependent.

Dr. Gupta's Innocent Advice
😀😀😀😀
Dear patients, please note:

1. The consultation fee is valid for 7 days, not for 7 years!

2. Please do not entrust your 1-year-old Bhuri Lal to hold the prescription; they have many other responsibilities!

3. Avoid making the following excuses for losing your prescription:
“It’s with them,”
“I left in a hurry,”
“The cow ate it,”
“It got washed away in a storm,”
“It got stolen from home,” or
“It got washed in my pants.”

4. If your prescription is covered with snacks or pickle, please bring your own marker pen for writing!

5. Kindly ensure you dust off turmeric, vermilion, rice, and bilva leaves before handing the prescription to the doctor.

6. Overwriting on the date will result in strict fee-related action!

7. A normal test report is a good thing, and the doctor is not responsible for it!

8. Please don’t insist on making the doctor speak to Dilkhush’s father on the phone!

9. Do not attempt to measure your child’s height with hand gestures and expect medicines to be prescribed!

10. Avoid forcing the doctor to examine boils, rashes, or fungal infections in sensitive areas daily; doctors need their lunch too!

11. Practice lying on your back and stomach at home before your visit.

12. After showing the primary patient, do not push forward the subsidiary patient to get their BP checked for free!

13. Feel free to crumple and toss the prescription from a quack wherever you like. Just don’t show it to the doctor and spoil their mood!

14. Do not complain about the compounder to the doctor. They are double MD!

15. If you’ve had a fever for four months, at least check your temperature once.

16. After eating, your stomach will naturally expand a bit. 5 kilos of food will stay in your stomach, not your head!

17. If every medicine gives you gas, please call the company and opt out of gas subsidies!
