Achalasia cardia is a rare disorder that makes it difficult to move food from the esophagus to the stomach. It's caused by the lower esophageal sphincter failing to relax, which prevents food from entering the stomach. Symptoms include difficulty swallowing, food getting stuck in the esophagus, regurgitation, weight loss, chest pain, and recurrent cough. There's no cure for achalasia, but endoscopic surgery like POEM can help manage symptoms. Sharing a case of type I achalasia cardia undergoing POEM at our center.
