Direct Anterior Approach (DAA) – Learning the Journey
Started my Direct Anterior Approach journey in January 2026 and have successfully completed 22 cases till date.
Every case continues to teach something new.
The DAA is truly a fascinating approach:
➡️ Faster and easier patient positioning
➡️ Muscle-sparing exposure with minimal soft tissue damage
➡️ Excellent 360° visualization of the acetabulum
➡️ Real-time intraoperative C-arm assessment of cup position and version
➡️ Better limb length assessment
➡️ Early rehabilitation and mobilization
➡️ Less fear of postoperative dislocation
What makes this approach exciting is the precision it offers, especially with intraoperative imaging and assessment.
At the same time, patient selection remains the key.
👨⚕️As surgeons, we must respect both our learning curve and the limitations of available infrastructure. Not every case is suitable for DAA, and understanding where to stop is equally important.
Still Learning. Still Exploring.
🙏 Grateful to My Mentors, Colleagues, OT Team, and Patients for the trust.
