Stimming isn’t random. It has meaning.

Many children flap, jump, hum, tap, or move repetitively, not because they’re “being silly” or “acting out,” but because their body is trying to regulate emotions and sensations.

Stimming is how the nervous system:

🧠 Releases excitement
😣 Handles overwhelm
😟 Relieves anxiety
🎯 Supports focus
😴 Manages fatigue
It is communication. It is self-soothing. It is a way to feel safe inside the body.

Instead of saying:

“Stop that.”
“Sit still.”
“Calm down.”

We can try:
✨ “I see you.”
✨ “I’m here with you.”
✨ “Let’s make this comfortable for your body.”

Children don’t always have the words, so their movements speak for them.
Understanding stimming means understanding your child’s world with compassion.
