Bladder cancer is a type of cancer that begins in the cells lining the bladder. It is most commonly urothelial carcinoma, which originates in the urothelial cells that line the inside of the bladder.
Symptoms
- Blood in the urine (hematuria)
- Frequent urination
- Painful urination
- Back pain
Causes & Risk Factors
- Smoking – Smokers are three times more likely to develop bladder cancer.
- Age – Most cases occur in people over 55.
- Exposure to harmful chemicals – Certain workplace chemicals increase risk.
- Chronic bladder inflammation – Long-term irritation can contribute to cancer.
