Cognitive Solutions Won’t Heal Body-Based Burnout

In the world of high-functioning professionals, burnout is often treated like a mindset issue.

I didn’t always know I had anxiety.
I just thought I was “too sensitive,”
Or that my body was just overreacting.

But underneath the overthinking…
Behind the irritability, the racing heart, the fatigue,
Was a nervous system crying for safety.

Anxiety isn’t “in your head.”
It lives in your body,
In the memories it holds,
In the patterns you’ve repeated,
In the fears you’ve tucked away.

When you learn what anxiety really is,
You stop blaming yourself.
You stop calling it weakness.
You begin to listen and that changes everything.

🌿 You learn what triggers you.
🌿 You learn how it shows up thoughts, feelings, behaviors.
🌿 You learn what helps your body feel safe again.

And only then…
You begin to reclaim peace.
Not the fake peace of pretending all is okay…

“Do you fidget, tap your fingers, bite your nails, bounce your leg… and wonder why you can’t stop?”

That might be stimming short for self-stimulatory behavior and it’s more common than you think.

When you feel anxious or overwhelmed, your body instinctively looks for a way to soothe itself. That’s when these repetitive movements show up not as “bad habits,” but as coping mechanisms.

🫶🏼 For many people with anxiety, stimming is:
☑️A way to release excess energy
☑️A self-regulation tool for the nervous system
☑️A signal from the body saying “I need safety right now”

Next time you catch yourself twirling your hair or tapping your foot, pause and ask gently:
“What is my body trying to soothe?”

This awareness helps shift from shame to compassion and compassion is where healing begins.

💌 You don’t need to stop stimming. You need to listen to what it’s trying to tell you.

Journal Notes from my Anxiety Journey…

How I am struggling with Anxiety right now....
Anxiety rocks my sleep....
Panic takes over ..
And yet I breathe..
My therapist holds space for me in love as my body releases old painful memories of trauma.....
My sacred sisters love and anoint my body in sacred circles…
My family loves me and present for me at all times…
My friends pray for me and think of me....
And my struggle is lessened...
And I breathe in ease.....
Some tears flow….then a lot of them flow….

And then I am back on track after the pause.....

🌿 Instead of chasing my to-do list… I began writing a to-be list.

Not what I had to do…
But who I longed to be.

✨ To be calm
✨ To be loving
✨ To be happy
✨ To be connected
✨ To be healthy
✨ To be fully, deeply… me

Somewhere between deadlines and duties, I had lost the softness of simply being.

So I closed my laptop.
Put my hand on my heart.
And I asked
“Who do I want to be today?”

And the answers came, not from my mind…
But from my nervous system.
From my breath.
From the little girl inside me who just wanted to feel safe and free.

A to-be list doesn’t overwhelm you.
It returns you
to yourself, to peace, to presence.

🫶🏼 Today, take a pause.
Write down your own to-be list.
Let it guide your moments more than your task list ever could.
