വിവരങ്ങൾ സ്വീകരിക്കുന്നതിനും അവ സംവിധാനം ചെയ്യുന്നതിനുമുള്ള തലച്ചോറിൻ്റെ കഴിവിനെ ബാധിക്കുന്ന തകരാറാണ് പഠനവൈകല്യം. പഠനവൈകല്യം ഒരാളുടെ ബൗദ്ധികനിലവാരത്തിൻ്റെ സൂചകമല്ല. ശ്രദ്ധ, സംസ്കാരം, എഴുത്ത്, വായന, കാര്യകാരണബോധം, ഗണിതശാസ്ത്രപരമായ കഴിവുകൾ എന്നിങ്ങനെ വിവിധ വിഷയങ്ങളിലുള്ള അറിവു സമ്പാദിക്കുന്നതിനും പ്രയോഗിക്കുന്നതിനു നേരിടുന്ന ബുദ്ധിമുട്ടുകൾ ആണ് പഠനവൈകല്യം.വിവരങ്ങൾ ക്രോഡീകരിച്ച് സംവിധാനം ചെയ്യുന്ന ഏതു രീതിയ്ക്കാണ് കുഴപ്പമുണ്ടായത് എന്നതിനേയും വിവരസംവിധാനത്തിലെ തകരാറുകൾ മൂലമുണ്ടാകുന്ന പ്രത്യേക ബുദ്ധിമുട്ടുകളേയും അടിസ്ഥാനമാക്കി പഠനവൈകല്യങ്ങളെ പ്രത്യേകവിഭാഗങ്ങളായി തരം തിരിക്കാം.

1) വായനയിലെ വൈകല്യം

ഇതു സർവസാധാരണമായി കണ്ടുവരുന്നു. പഠനവൈകല്യമുള്ള കുട്ടികളിൽ 70 മുതൽ 80 ശതമാനം വരെ പേരിൽ വായനയിലുള്ള വൈകല്യമാണ് പ്രകടമായി കാണാറുള്ളത്. വായിക്കാനുള്ള കഴിവില്ലായ്മയെ ഡിസ്ലെക്സിയ (Dyslexia) എന്നാണ് പറയാറ്.

2) എഴുതാനുള്ള കഴിവില്ലായ്മ

സംസാരത്തിലും ഭാഷയിലുമുള്ള വൈകല്യങ്ങളെ ഡിസ്ഫേസിയ/അഫേസിയ (Dysphasia/Aphasia) എന്നും പറയാറുണ്ട്. എഴുത്തു ഭാഷയിലുള്ള വൈകല്യങ്ങൾ കൈയക്ഷരത്തിലും ആശയരൂപീകരണത്തിലുമൊക്കെ നിഴലിക്കാറുണ്ട്. എഴുത്തിലൂടെയുള്ള ആശയപ്രകാശനത്തെ ബാധിക്കുന്ന വൈകല്യങ്ങൾക്ക് പൊതുവായി പറയുന്ന പേരാണ് ഡിസ്ഗ്രാഫിയ

3) ഗണിതവൈകല്യം

ഗണിതശാസ്ത്രപരമായ ആശയങ്ങളൾ പഠിക്കുന്നതിനുള്ള ന്യൂനതയാണ് ഡിസ്കാൽക്കുലിയ (Dyscalculia). അളവുകൾ, സ്ഥാനമൂല്യം, സമയം തുടങ്ങിയ ആശയങ്ങൾ മനസ്സിലാക്കാനും, ഗണിതപരമായ വസ്തുതകളെ ഓർത്തെടുക്കാനും, അക്കങ്ങളെ ചിട്ടപ്പെടുത്താനും, ഒരു പേജിൽ ഗണിതപ്രശ്നങ്ങൾ എങ്ങനെയാണ് അവതരിപ്പിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നത് എന്നു മനസ്സിലാക്കാനും ഗണിതവൈകല്യമുള്ളവർക്ക് ബുദ്ധിമുട്ടായിരിക്കും.

4) വാങ്മയേതര പഠനവൈകല്യങ്ങൾ (nonverbal learning disability)

വാക്കുകളിലൂടെയല്ലാതെയുള്ള പഠനം നേരിടുന്ന ബുദ്ധിമുട്ടുകൾ ആണ് ഈ ഗണത്തിൽ പെടുന്നത്. ദൃശ്യപരമായും സ്ഥലത്തെ സംബന്ധിച്ചും ധാരണ ഉണ്ടാക്കാൻ ഈ വൈകല്യമുള്ള കുട്ടികൾക്കു പ്രയാസം കാണും. സാമൂഹികബന്ധങ്ങളിലും കാര്യങ്ങൾ ക്രോഡീകരിക്കുന്നതിലും പ്രശ്നങ്ങൾ ഉണ്ടായിരിക്കും. പക്ഷേ, പലപ്പോളും വാക്കുകളുടെ ഉപയോഗത്തിൻ്റെ കാര്യത്തിൽ ഇവർക്ക് അസാദ്ധ്യ കഴിവായിരിക്കും.

5) ഡിസ്പ്രാക്സിയ (dyspraxia)

സൂക്ഷ്മവും തുടർച്ചയും ആയ ചലനങ്ങൾ ആവശ്യമായ പ്രവൃത്തികൾ ചെയ്യാൻ കഴിയാത്ത അവസ്ഥയാണിത്. തലമുടി ചീകുക, കൈ വീശി ഗുഡ്ബൈ പറയുക തുടങ്ങി ഒരേ തരം ചലനങ്ങൾ വേണ്ടവയും, പല്ലു തേയ്ക്കുക, വസ്ത്രം ധരിക്കുക, ഒരു വസ്തുവിനെ മാറ്റൊന്നുമായി ബന്ധപ്പെടുത്തി ഒരു സ്ഥലത്ത് സ്ഥാപിക്കുക തുടങ്ങി ഒന്നിലധികം ചലനങ്ങൾ ഉൾപ്പെട്ട പ്രവൃത്തികൾ ചെയ്യാൻ ഡിസ്പ്രാക്സിയ ഉള്ളവർക്ക് പ്രയാസമായിരിക്കും.

6) സംസാരിക്കാനും ശ്രദ്ധിക്കാനുമുള്ള കഴിവില്ലായ്മ (Disorders of Speaking and Listening)

പഠനവൈകല്യങ്ങളോടൊപ്പം തന്നെ ഓർമ്മ ശക്തിയിലും സാമൂഹികമായ കഴിവുകളിലും സമയക്ളിപ്തത പാലിക്കുന്നതിലും കാര്യങ്ങൾ ആസൂത്രണം ചെയ്തു നടപ്പാക്കുന്നതിലും ന്യൂനത കണ്ടു വരാറുണ്ട്.

7) ശ്രാവ്യ ധാരണയിലെ വൈകല്യം (Auditory Processing Disorder)

കേൾക്കുന്ന കാര്യങ്ങൾ, പ്രത്യേകിച്ച് ഒന്നിലധികം കാര്യങ്ങൾ ഒരേ സമയം കേൾക്കേണ്ടി വരുമ്പോൾ അവയെ വേർതിരിച്ചു മനസ്സിലാക്കാൻ ഈ വൈകല്യമുള്ളവർക്ക് ബുദ്ധിമുട്ടായിരിക്കും. എന്നാൽ ഇവർക്ക് ദൃശ്യങ്ങളിലൂടെ കണ്ടു മനസ്സിലാക്കാൻ അസാമാന്യകഴിവുണ്ടാകാൻ സാദ്ധ്യത കൂടുതലാണ്.

രോഗ നിർണ്ണയം വളരെ പ്രധാനമാണ്

കുട്ടിയെ സ്കൂളിൽ ചേർക്കുന്നതിനു മുൻപുതന്നെ പഠനവൈകല്യത്തിൻ്റെ സൂചനകൾ പല രക്ഷിതാക്കളും ശ്രദ്ധിച്ചെന്നിരിക്കും. എന്നാൽ സ്കൂളിൽ ചേർന്നു കഴിഞ്ഞു പ്രശ്നങ്ങൾ തുടങ്ങുമ്പോളാണ് അതു കുറേക്കൂടി പ്രകടമാകുന്നത്. വായിക്കാൻ കുഞ്ഞിനു ബുദ്ധിമുട്ടു കാണുന്നതാണ് പഠന വൈകല്യത്തിൻ്റെ പ്രാരംഭലക്ഷണം. എത്രയും നേരത്തെ ഈ ലക്ഷണങ്ങൾ തിരിച്ചറിഞ്ഞു വേണ്ട ചികിത്സ നൽകുക എന്നതാണ് അവശ്യമായിട്ടുള്ളത്. കേരളത്തിൽ എല്ലാ ജില്ലകളിലും ഡിസ്ട്രിക്റ്റ് ഏർലി ഇൻ്റർവെൻഷൻ സെൻ്ററുകൾ (DEIC). അവിടെ വിദഗ്ധരായ ചികിത്സകരുടെ സേവനം പഠനവൈകല്യങ്ങൾ പരിഹരിക്കുന്നതിന് സൗജന്യമായി ലഭ്യമാണ്.
