That’s why I feel IOPAR plays an inportant role in dentistry!!

This patient came with complains of pain in the lower last tooth .. 🦷

On routine investigation with IOPAR decayed third molar was seen . But surrounding areas didn’t seem to be normal..

So one more IOPAR was repeated which showed impacted second molar ..
resorption of distal root of 1st molar .

Would you have missed the findings above in your routine practice ??

Primum non nocere !!

This is a case by my colleague .. just sharing for educational purpose.

Whenever we get these kind of cases … I feel it’s better to leave the remaining root fragments
1. If it is less than 3mm
2. If the tooth is not associated with any pathology or infected
3. Root must be embedded in bone and not pushed into tissue spaces

If we are leaving the root tip
* Inform the patient
* Obtain a immediate post-op image
* Follow up for evaluation of healing

Even if the case is done by a Maxillofacial surgeon , please don’t expect superhero 🦸 powers from him 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻 He might take it but your patient may suffer long term Paresthesia ..
