A CHECK ON THIS EARTH DAY !
IS OUR PARENTING RESPONSIBLE AND ECO FRIENDLY ? We all can contribute our bit by few thoughtful gestures.
1.Clothes and toys:Toddlers soon outgrow them.Surprisingly in 2-3 months !Think twice before buying a lot of them.Instead ask family or friends.Traditionally, used clothes are said to be softer on the skin than the new ones (besides warding off the buri nazar as naanis and daadis say :)plus you are also contributing to the environment .Always remember to clean and sanitise them before using.Declutter often and lend yours to others .Make your own colourful visual stimulating rattles at home !
2. Diapers :cloth diapers are the most eco friendly choice.By the time a child is toilet trained, he or she uses about 6,000 diapers. And one diaper takes about 300 to 500 years to decompose in the environment.Trying to limit the use of commercial diapers and switching over to cloth diapers as much as possible, can be one of the green ways to take care of the environment. It will also keep your childs skin softer and limit the use of rash creams or unwanted skin products.Getting more to wash and clean will also mean more active moments for you,and fitter arm muscles :)
3.Skin products and bathing :Try to use organic plant based, chemical free, organic skin products for your child ,as their skin is very sensitive. Always read the labels as these products should be free from phthalates, preservatives, dyes and fragrances.Few better and eco-friendly options are shea butter, olive oil, coconut butter or calamine lotion.Cut down on water use everytime you bathe your child.
4. Feeding : Breastfeeding is the best, most convenient, most economical and the greenest way to feed your child.Use good quality,BPA free plastics bottkes if needed .Use plant based and homemade ingredients for washing. When weaning, fresh home cooked, organic foods give the best nutrition to your child.Any kind of frozen, preserved, packed or instant foods will be nutritionally inferior. Let's act as a role model for our children towards a better and sustainable future .Happy parenting!Responsible parenting!
