Karuna Pain and Palliative Care Society

Karuna Pain and Palliative Care Society is a charitable society registered under TCC Act with the entire Chengannur Taluk and Chennithala Panchayath of Mavelikara Taluk coming under its sphere of attention. Karuna functions through 11 zonal committees and trained palliative care volunteers working in 178 wards. Karuna is dedicated to facilitate judicial provision of palliative care, and care and facilities for the destitute and all those involved in end of life and hospice care in and around Chengannur taluk. Karuna caters for the needs of patients in different stages of illness including those languishing in acute stages. Karuna draws its members from many different professions including medicine, nursing and social work, particularly incorporating in its programme, active involvement of psychologists and other allied health professionals. Since the society has not formed any particular criterion in choosing its members, anyone is welcome to join Karuna as an active volunteer, regardless of his/her political views and spiritual faith. Karuna believes that everyone approaching the end of life has the right to the highest quality care and support, wherever they live, and whatever their condition is. Karuna also strives to effectively address the physical, emotional and social concerns of the affected. The society is determined to work as well with government, health and social care staff, and people with personal experience to improve end of life care for all.
