From Everyday Care to Extraordinary Healing ✨🎄
Dr Rela Institute & Medical Centre, – Women & Children Division | Christmas & New Year 2025–26
As another remarkable year comes to a close, we reflect on how far we’ve come — and how much further we’re prepared to go.
At Rela Hospital, our Women & Children Division is designed to care for every life stage, every condition — from the simplest to the most complex.
Whether it’s:
🩺 A child walking in with a common fever
👶 A newborn in the NICU fighting for every breath
🤱 A mother delivering under high-risk conditions
💉 Or a young patient undergoing a life-saving transplant —
We’ve built a system that offers seamless, end-to-end care, through every step of the journey.
From pediatric emergency to PICU, from routine check-ups to India’s largest pediatric liver transplant and bone marrow transplant programs, our strength lies in a deeply structured, multi-disciplinary team that works with one shared purpose: to heal, protect, and uplift every family that walks through our doors.
📸 Sharing a few glimpses from the year — consultant meets, team gatherings, moments that remind us:
Behind every success, there’s a team.
Behind every team, there’s trust.
And behind it all — there’s the will to keep growing, together.
Here’s to more strength, more compassion, and more impact in 2026.
Wishing you all a joyful Christmas and a Happy New Year!
Dr. Naresh Shanmugam
Director – Women & Child Health, Rela Hospital

PARENTS: A Small Mistake That Can Cause a BIG Overdose
Syrup vs Drops = 5–10× stronger. One confusion can send a child to the ICU.
⚠️ Why this is a serious problem
Studies show:
Liquid medication errors account for 80–85% of dosing mistakes made by parents at home (Pediatrics, 2021).
1 in 4 parents give the wrong dose even with instructions (AAP research).
Pharmacies often substitute drops instead of syrup during self-medication, and many parents don’t know the concentrations differ dramatically.
Paracetamol overdose remains a leading cause of pediatric acute liver failure globally.
🧨 Example of the danger:
Syrup Paracetamol: 120 mg in 5 mL
Drops Paracetamol: 100 mg in 1 mL
If a parent gives 5 mL of drops, the child receives:
❌ 5 TIMES the intended dose → risk of liver failure or poisoning
This confusion happens every day.
🔍 Common OTC medicines available as BOTH syrup & drops:
These often have 10× concentration differences:
Paracetamol
Ibuprofen
Cetirizine / Levocetirizine
Diphenhydramine / CPM
Vitamin D (D3 drops vs D3 syrup)
Iron supplements
Simethicone / Colic drops
Domperidone
Antispasmodics (e.g., dicyclomine)
Parents usually assume all liquids are the same formulation — but drops are extremely concentrated.
🛑 Before giving ANY medicine:
✔ Check mg/mL (NOT just the name)
✔ Confirm syrup vs drops
✔ Use only the provided syringe/dropper
✔ If pharmacy substituted the product → recheck the dose
❌ NEVER interchange drops and syrup
❌ NEVER guess the dose
❤️ One check can save a child. Please share this widely.

It was a pleasure to attend the annual conference of Indian society of organ transplant (ISOT) at Ahmedabad. More sessions has been allocated to liver transplantation. Innovative ideas has been shared in the session of "Cell free DNA (cfDNA) in monitoring graft health" and hopefully we will move away from invasive biopsies to look at transplant organ health. , ,
