VERRUCA VULGARIS

Also called common warts.
They are caused by various strains of Human papilloma viruses.

CLINICAL FEATURES:
1. Single or multiple
2. Circumscribed
3. Firm
4. Dome shaped
5. Papules with a verrucous dry surface.
6. Appears anywhere in the body.

MANAGEMENT:
Topical agents: Salicylic acid (15 to 25%)
Wart paint
Retinoic acid (0.01%)

Surgical excision
Electrocautery and RFA
Cryotherapy.

PARONYCHIA
The most common hand infection.
It is a soft tissue infection around a nail. Usually occurs in the subcuticular area under the eponychium.
TYPES
Acute & Chronic.
ACUTE PARONYCHIA:
Causes: Minor injury to the finger is the common cause (nail biting).
Organisms: Staphylococcus aureus,
Streptococcus pyogenes.

Clinical features:
1. Edema and Erythema.
2. Throbbing pain.
3. Nail on touch is very tender.
4.Frank abscess and Fluctuation.
Treatment done:
Oral antibiotics.
Incision and drainage over eponychium under local anesthesia.
Floating nail
It indicates that the nail is dead - excision can be done or it may eventually fall off.
