Glad to share that one decision which has benefited me the most. Want to try it out, if that works for you?

As an avid book reader, I look out for action items from every book. Over the past 3 decades I have implemented many.

If you ask me one action item that stands tall above the rest - it is this.

"DO NOT TAKE ANY IMPORTANT DECISION WHEN YOU ARE EMOTIONALLY CHARGED - EITHER WAYS, EXTREME HIGH or LOW"

I do not remember the book name, as this was about 25 years ago.

The logic was simple and straight forward.

When you are emotionally charged - intelligence goes down. Why?

Emotional veil will mask your objectivity and not let you have a holistic view. Obviously, your intelligence takes a beating.

Leaning more on the emotional side - I found this very relevant to me.

Initially it used to take a while before I regain my emotional balance. After Yoga came into my life, it became easier.

This is the strategy I follow today and it helps me great time. I now teach it to my students as part of what I call YogaPLUS lifestyle at Ankur.

There are instances when my students mended their relationships. Long pending divorce cases were resolved. Families got re-united.

In one instance, one of the student restrained dropping out of college and is happily pursuing the career of his choice - confident and balanced.

THE STRATEGY:

- Whenever emotionally charged - Pause and take a step back. Do not take the decision.

- Do some relaxation practices, regain the balance.

- In a relaxed state of mind, when you are sure that objectivity is back in its place, take the decision.
Sometimes, I am criticised for being slow in decision making.

I just do not like stagnation. I do not like to see people working under me doing the same job year after year!

I am a continuous learner and surround myself with people who are so.

One guy (10th Failed) joined me as an office assistant decades ago.
His family and teacher believed he can never understand anything and he is fit for nothing.
7 years down the line he went on to pursue CA, studying part-time, while learning the skills at work.

After working for a couple of years with me, this guy brought his friend to me.
He was 12th failed.
He also joined me as an office assistant.
While he moved on he was handling all statutory aspects in my organisation, including finalisation of accounts.

One guy wanted to drop out of his UG program, when his mother brought him to me.
He was in 5th Sem and had 10+ arrears.
6th months down the line he cleared all the arrears at one go and completed his graduation with no arrears pending.
He went on to pursue his post graduation overseas and is happily pursuing his career there - confident and self-reliant.

I can go on and on with more examples...

You are fit for nothing...
You will not get anywhere in life...
You can never understand anything...

Probably you also heard such judgements and labels very frequently in school?

If not at you - probably it was directed at one of your classmate.

Looking back, you may notice some of them with such labels have gone places in life.

The fact is the teacher did not know how to
- bring out the best in that child
- did not know how to make the child understand.

If your environment recognises and motivates you, you will shine and spread light around you.

Unfortunately this judging and labelling does not end in school. It may be in your neighbourhood or in your workplace or may be in your family.

All I did was created a learning environment around my mentees/employees. (I learnt how-to from my elders)
Upskilled them one skill at a time.
Motivated them to take up one more responsibility at a time.

Let not other's disbelief about you bring your self-confidence down.

To help those who do not have a positive environment around them, I evolved some simple tools and habits.

These are helping my students/mentees pep up their self-confidence, stay positive and motivated.

With Yogic tools added to their routine, they uplift themselves as Lord Krishna says in Gita
Uddaredatmanatmanam atmanam avasadhayet Atmaivahi atmano bandhuhu atmaivahi ripuhu atmanaha - Uplift yourself by yourself. Your mind is your best friend. Your mind is your worst enemy.

You can choose to make it your best friend and uplift yourself.

You may/may not find a positive environment around you.

But you can create one within you. This is in your control.

Are you obsessed with reading and forwarding motivation quotes and videos?

Are you browsing one social media platform after the next for some positive thoughts and motivation?

There is some good and bad news for you!

Good News - Motivational messages and quotes may inspire and fire the positive energies in you.

Bad News - That will be short lived, if it is not turned into a habit.

If there is one thing that can take you to great heights - it is habits!

You are but a bundle of habits.

You inculcated some as a child - unawares...

You inculcate some - out of compulsion in office / work-place / home - this will make you stressed.

But that one that can take you to great heights are those habits you inculcate out of conscious choice - an informed decision!

After I was diagnosed for Jaundice 21 years ago, I made a conscious decision to do yoga daily and choose what goes into my mouth.

That habit led me to series of new habits which helped me boost my immunity levels and keep doctors and pills away for 20+ years.

Options 2-4 makes sense based on one’s need. You would agree that option 1 is not an intelligent choice.
