Manta vascular closure device has been launched in India. We used this technology for 2 TAVI cases today with good final results. It is a very useful addition for closing a large bore access.

New Ultreon 2.0 Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) system has been launched in India. It was installed in Apollo hospital yesterday and Dr. Sengottuvelu performed the first few cases with excellent results. This represents a significant advancement in intravascular imaging for coronary artery disease.

This AI-powered system provides real-time imaging and analysis of the coronary arteries, and helps optimize stent procedure and improves outcomes. The AI-based software helps in better identification and interpretation of plaque types, vessel morphology, and other essential features. This improves decision-making regarding stent selection and vessel preparation, and provides highly precise guidance for stent placement.

A successful TRANSCATHETER AORTIC VALVE IMPLANTATION (TAVI) procedure was performed at Asiri Surgical Hospital by a team of Cardiologists, headed by Dr Chamara Ratnayake (Resident Cardiologist - Asiri Group) and Dr. Chandrike Ponnamperuma (Consultant Cardiologist) aided by the Proctorship of a Senior Interventional Cardiologist from India on 12/6/2024.

TAVI is a minimally invasive procedure performed to replace a severely narrowed and calcified aortic valve without opening the chest surgically. This is performed mainly in patients who are considered too high risk for open heart surgery.

The procedure is performed via the groin using a tube to gain access to the valve and can even be done with deep sedation rather than the patient undergoing general anaesthesia.

This is now considered the gold standard procedure in patients who are over 75 years with symptomatic severe aortic stenosis who fulfil specific criteria. The above patient had an uneventful recovery and had immediate relief of symptoms. The team hopes to perform more such procedures in the near future.
