There may come a day in our life, when we realise that no amount of medical support or money is going to help rescue us from the *JAWS OF DEATH*-The day when we desperately look for relief from the pain that we are going through from *CHRONIC LIFE THREATENING DISEASES*. The time when we croon in pain and be pushed on to the verge of ending our lives. The pain, the mental agony, the financial implications, and everything else makes the life in front of us bleak. This is when the role of *PALLIATIVE CARE* comes into existence.Palliative care is intended to provide all possible comfort to the under privileged terminally ill patients to spend the last few days or months of their life peacefully and with dignity. This area of health care primarily focuses on providing home care and relieving the suffering of patients. The biggest accident in today's world is in the process of racing against time to achieve our materialistic desires. we often tend to forget our own self and that of our Kith and kin. The days become shorter and we fail to find time to bother or care for the terminally ill people in our home or in our society. The acute need for a community based palliative care service was realised by a section of like minded socially committed people of Chennai and paved way for the origination of *Chennai pain and palliative care.(CPPC)*. Started in November 2014, *CPPC* has reached out to every nook and corner of Chennai city and its outskirts and extended it's arm of support to more than 450 terminally ill patients at their homes *absolutely free of cost*, most of whom are not with us now.The goal is to reduce the suffering and improve quality of life at the end of life of the patient and bid them a well dignified farewell. Depending upon the patients need, palliative care support is provided by our specially trained team of Doctors,Nurses and other socially committed volunteers to provide an extra layer of support.Serious illness may include cancer,Heart disease, lung disease, kidney disease, Alzheimer's, Parkinson and many more. CPPC is very much aware that our responsibility does not end here. we at CPPC do not limit ourselves to just providing palliative care support to the patients, but also involve in educating the patients immediate family members, extended family members and the younger generation of the society at large with regular palliative care awareness programme, imbide the importance of palliative care in them and motivate them to join us to serve these underprivileged segments of the society. However, very shortly after the inception of CPPC in the year 2014, it has been strongly felt that providing just home based palliative care support has its own limitations and that has many a times pushed the urgent need for CPPC's own inpatient facility,. where round the clock special medical care and emotional care can be given to the patients who have reached the fag end of his/her life to make their life less miserable. CPPC decided to travel that extra mile to have its own hospice care centre.

On the occasion of stepping into the fourth year of its service, November 19, 2017, is a day which was inscribed in *GOLD* in the history of Chennai pain and palliative care. *ABHAYAM* - *A unit of Chennai pain and palliative care* was born this day. Set in a serene 3.6 acres of land, an exclusive 40 bedded hospice care unit was started at Sirinium village, Sholavaram,on the outskirts of Chennai to accommodate and provide End of life care. *ABHAYAM* - the name by itself is self explanatory and synonyms with refuge.Providing comfort, support and dignity are the three mantras of CPPC.

Our volunteers consider it as a blessing to have an opportunity be associated with an organisation with such a noble cause and we hope you will share the same feelings. We would be extremely grateful for all your support both financially and otherwise, that can be extended greatful for all your support both financially and otherwise, that can be extended to make this venture a great success by touching and making a sustainable difference in the lives of such souls. *Registered office: No.24,SMV Koil street, Triplicane, Chennai-600 005*. *Hospice care address: ABHAYAM, Sembulivaram road,(Near Buelah Garden), Sirinium village, Sholavaram Post, Chennai-600 067 Mr.TK.Vijayakumar, General secretary. 9444194501*
