Dr Mohan : Delivered a talk today on 'Psychobiotics - Science fiction or Foreseeable reality' at the International Conference on Schizophrenia - by SCARF, Chennai.
Psychobiotic is a name given to Probiotics that are supposed to have action on the brain.
Lot of promise in animal studies- for anxiety, depression and reduction of stress. Very early days for human studies.

Psychiatry for Non Psychiatrists presents the 2016 edition of the workshop - Psychiatry for Counselors.


Psychiatry for Non Psychiatrists is an initiative of
Dr. S. Mohan Raj, Consultant Psychiatrist, Chennai to spread awareness about Psychiatry and to improve skills of other professionals working with patients. Some programs for Family Physicians, and counselors were held earlier.

Psychiatry for Non Psychiatrists along with Tharu Clinic is back with the 2016 edition of

Psychiatry for Counselors

The aim of this program is to familiarise counselors with Psychiatric symptoms and illnesses and improve their skills in recognising these in their clients. This will help in choosing the right therapy for their clients.

Eligibility to attend: Degree in Psychology, Social work, Counseling, or allied fields. Students are also eligible to attend.

Delegate fee:
Per day- Rs. 2,500
All six days- Rs. 12,500

Refresher fee: Those who attended all 6 days of earlier workshops can attend again at Rs. 600/day.

Tharu Wellness Workshops conducted a full day program on 'Lifstyle and Stress management' today for Indian Oil Corporation participants from four southern states. I(Mohan) set the tone by speaking on What stress is, its causes and effects. Mr. Anandh Krishna, Consultant Psychotherapist did a wonderful session on some relaxation exercises. Dr Ranjan, Co nsultant Cardiologist made a passionate appeal against smoking during his talk on 'Lifestyle for a Healthy Heart'. I wound up with a session on 'Stress Management'. The whole day was well received.
