The law that governs desires was put succinctly by my Guru: ‘Desires,’ he said, ‘ever gratified, are never satisfied.’ The converse is true also, though less absolutely so: ‘Never gratified, ever satisfied.’

Kindness

When you can view all human beings as members of your own extended family-your brothers and sisters, mothers, fathers, and children-then you will find wherever you go that love awaits you, welcomes you! It is God who gazes back at you, when you behold Him in all!
Kindness is the recognition that all are truly our own. Kindness comes from not minding how others feel about us. It comes from the simple understanding that kindness is its own reward, worth giving out to others, because the source of so much sweetness in ourselves. For those of broad sympathies, the very universe is home!

“The spine is the highway to the Infinite. Your own body is the temple of God. It is within your
own self that God must be realized. Whatever places of pilgrimage you visit outwardly, and
whatever outward rituals you perform, the ultimate ‘pilgrimage’ must be within. - Paramhansa Yogananda.

“Yoga works primarily with the energy in the body, through the science of pranayama, or energy-control. Prana means also ‘breath.’ Yoga teaches how, through breath-control, to still the mind and attain higher states of awareness. - Paramhansa Yogananda

Now, I'm a good case in point here because I've been writing for many years. I haven't been able to go out and do work on the farm and do physical work. I don't get any physical activity really, which is unbalanced, I agree. I ought to get out there and jog and so on, but instead I sit there and type. And so my body should be flabby. People who live the way I do are flabby by the time they're 25. And here I am in my 50s.

But I have such a strong body that sometimes I've Indian‑wrestled with our young men and always beaten them. Vidura here is a jogger and very athletic and does a great deal of physical work and is very strong physically. And we tried Indian wrestling, and it was a joke because they assumed I couldn't possibly beat him, and I just went like that and he fell over. Wasn't it so?

So we tried leg wrestling, and we were about to get set and the phone rang. And somebody said, “There's a phone call for you.” So I thought, “Well, let's get this over with quickly.” So I just knocked him over and went and got the phone. In Hawaii I was doing this with some of the young men there, and they were staying up till 2 o'clock trying to figure out how I did it.

But it's very simple: practice these energization exercises for a few years and you'll get it. These exercises I do every day, and they've given me so much control over my muscles and so much strength. My thigh is just like a board; it's as if I was out there doing track every day. It's not as if you will get bulging muscles, but you will find that you do develop strength in these exercises. You do them 10 minutes a day and you'll find that they give you wonderful energy.

I (Paramhansa Yogananda) entered the ashram room where Master’s (Swami Sri Yukteswar’s) body, unimaginably lifelike, was sitting in the lotus posture—a picture of health and loveliness. A short time before his passing, my guru had been slightly ill with fever, but before the day of his ascension into the Infinite, his body had become completely well. No matter how often I looked at his dear form I could not realize that its life had departed. His skin was smooth and soft; in his face was a beatific expression of tranquillity. He had consciously relinquished his body at the hour of mystic summoning.

“The Lion of Bengal is gone!” I cried in a daze.

When I am Only a Dream

I come to tell you all of Him,
And the way to encase Him in your bosom,
And of the discipline which brings His grace.
To those of you who have asked me
To guide you to my Beloved’s preseulturesilently talking mind,
Or speak to you through a gentle significant glance, Or whisper to you through my love,
Or loudly dissuade you when you stray away from Him.
But when I shall become only a memory or a mental image,
Or silently speaking voice,
When no earthly call will ever reveal
My whereabouts in unplumbed space
When no shallow entreaty or stern stentorian command
Will bring an answer from me,
I will smile in your mind when you are right,
And when you are wrong, I will weep through my eyes,
Dimly peering at you in the dark,
And weep through your eyes, perchance;
And I will whisper to you through your conscience, And I will reason with you through your reason, And I will love through your love.
When you are able no longer to talk to me,
Read my Whispers of Eternity.
Eternally through that I will talk to you.
Unknown I will walk by your side
And guard you with invisible arms.
And as soon as you know my Beloved
And hear His voice in silence,
You will know me again more tangibly
Than you knew me in this earth plane.
And yet when I am only a dream to you
I will come to remind you that you too are naught
But a dream of my Heavenly Beloved,
And when you know you are a dream, as I know now,
We all will be ever awake in Him.
