REPUBLIC DAY – Ministry of AYUSH 🇮🇳

🇮🇳

“Doctor, I don’t want kashaymlam
Arishta is enough. Tablets are enough.”

Such requests are commonly heard in clinical practice.
When the disease does not cause much discomfort, many feel that an easy-to-consume medicine is sufficient.

However, when the disease becomes severe or chronic, the same patients often say:
“Doctor, I just want the disease to get cured by any means.”

It is important to understand this clearly:
❌ Taking only “easy medicines” is not always right
❌ Allowing a disease to persist for years is also not right

Hence, some basic principles must be understood.

👉 Ayurveda has multiple dosage forms (Aushadha Kalpanas):

🟢 Kashaya, Arishta, Ghrita (medicated ghee), Lehyam
🟢 Churnas (powders), tablets
🟢 Medicated oils, Bhasmas
🟢 Freshly extracted herbal juices used with or without filtration, and administered with suitable anupanas such as honey, jaggery, etc., depending on the condition

🟠 It should also be remembered that the same group of herbs can be prepared as
kashaya, arishta, ghrita, or tablets.

📌 Why?
Because the choice of formulation depends on:
🔸 Digestive strength (Jataragni -digestion, metabolism, absorption)
🔸 Strength of the patient and strength of the disease
🔸 Body constitution (Prakriti)
🔸 Age
🔸 Associated illnesses and health conditions
🔸 Season and geographical region and other factors

Only after evaluating all these factors should a formulation be selected.

👉 Dosage forms should:
❌ Not be decided by the patient
❌ Not be chosen merely for convenience

The true strength and beauty of Ayurvedic treatment lies in selecting the right formulation for the right condition at the right time.

Gaining a basic and correct understanding of medicine and health is the first step towards effective treatment. 👍✔️

The importance of the six tastes—sweet, sour, salty, pungent, bitter, and astringent—in health maintenance and disease prevention will be discussed separately.

Thank you.

Treatment Experiences 🌿

Recently, a patient who had been suffering from a chronic illness for several years was admitted for treatment.

During the initial consultation, the patient shared a concern:

“Doctor, earlier when I took an Ayurvedic medicine, I developed swelling on my body.”

To understand the situation better, I asked a few questions 👇
✔️ Any history of skin diseases or allergies?
✔️ Any other medical conditions?
✔️ Which medicine was taken and from which company?
✔️ Was the medicine taken in the prescribed dose and duration?
✔️ Were dietary restrictions for the disease (pathya–apathya) followed properly?
✔️ Were any home remedies or herbal combinations taken without medical advice?
✔️ Were medicines from other systems of medicine taken simultaneously?

Along with these, other illness-related details were also reviewed.

After a detailed evaluation, it became clear that
👉 the issue was due to incorrect use of the medicine, not the medicine itself.

When the patient stopped that medicine earlier, the skin swelling had subsided.
The medicine prescribed at that time was not suitable for the patient’s body constitution ,disease condition and other factors.
This understanding helped the patient realize that the problem was not with Ayurveda.

The patient was then admitted, and treatment was started with medicines suitable for their condition.
Care was taken to avoid any previous adverse experiences.
Gradually, the symptoms reduced, and the patient regained confidence and happiness 😊
The prescribed medicines are being continued with good compliance.

The key message I wish to share is this 👇
👉 Ayurvedic treatment is based on selecting the right medicine,
in the right dose, and in the right manner-considering the disease, body constitution, season, and other individual factors.

The importance of body constitution, season, diet, and lifestyle in both treatment and health maintenance
will be shared in upcoming posts 🌱

When is Ayurveda Treatment Safe? ❓

The first and most important step is an accurate diagnosis.
Ayurvedic diagnosis is done through various Ayurvedic methods.
A patient must be examined directly, through:
• Darshana – observing body type, nature of symptoms, tongue, eyes, posture, etc.
• Sparshana – physical examination, Nadi, palpation etc
• Prashna – detailed questioning.

Ayurveda uses Ashta Vidha and Dasha Vidha examinations.
Modern investigations like lab tests and scans also help in making the diagnosis clear.

Before prescribing internal medicines, external therapies, or Panchakarma, a physician must understand the following:

Things to Understand Before Starting Treatment ❗

1️⃣ Not just the disease, but the precise disease state must be understood.
2️⃣ The strength of the disease and the strength of the patient must be assessed.
3️⃣ The patient’s physical and mental constitution (Prakriti) should be identified.
4️⃣ Digestive capacity (Agni) must be evaluated—digestion, absorption etc
5️⃣ Age of the patient.
6️⃣ Climate and location where the patient lives.
7️⃣ Quality of medicines—they must be properly prepared.
Herbs requiring purification must be purified correctly. Ayurveda has its own testing standards.Using today‘s testing methods also
8️⃣ Medicines and external therapies must be modified according to the patient’s condition.
9️⃣ Therapists / nurses should know the patient’s condition and perform treatments correctly as per medical guidance.

Key Points to Remember ☘️

✅ Follow the appropriate diet and lifestyle as per your body type and disease condition.

✅ Emotional balance is essential for healing.

Many patients take Ayurveda along with allopathic or other medicines.
This is safe only if confirmed by the respective physicians.
If not, it may be unsafe. 🛑

🛑 Do NOT take any other Ayurvedic or herbal medicines without your doctor’s advice.

🛑 Do NOT continue previous medicines on your own if the disease returns.

🛑 Do NOT give your prescribed medicines to another person.

❤️In Ayurveda, the actual act of curing a disease lies in the “application of treatment.”
Medicines, external therapies, and Panchakarma procedures are only effective when the physician has the right knowledge of how, when, and for whom they should be applied.
This knowledge of proper application is the first and most important weapon in overcoming disease.❤️

To be continued......

Today is World Diabetes Day. 🙏

In Ayurveda, Prameha is classified into 20 types based on symptoms and the variations of the three doshas. These are grouped into three major categories:

1️⃣ Kaphaja Prameha – 10 subtypes
2️⃣ Pittaja Prameha – 6 subtypes
3️⃣ Vataja Prameha – 4 subtypes

🔸Individualized Treatment According to Type

Ayurvedic treatment is never the same for every patient.
It is planned after carefully assessing:
• Symptoms and severity of the condition
• Dosha involvement (Vata, Pitta, Kapha) and affected dhatus (tissues)
• Strength of the patient and nature of the body (Prakriti)
• Digestive and metabolic capacity (Agni)
• Age, associated diseases
• Season, geographic conditions,
Based on all these parameters, Ayurveda recommends distinct and personalized treatment strategies for each patient.

🔸Managing and Preventing Diabetic Complications

Ayurvedic treatment focuses not only on controlling blood sugar but also on protecting vital organs commonly affected by diabetes, such as:
• Heart
• Kidneys
• Liver
• Eyes

Today, many patients seek treatment after complications begin.
Ayurveda offers supportive management and preventive care to protect these organs.

🔸Diet, Drinks & Lifestyle

Depending on the condition and digestive strength:
• Scientifically planned diet
• Appropriate exercise
• Discipline in daily routine (Dinacharya) and seasonal regimen (Ritucharya)

These all play a crucial role in diabetes control.

🔸Importance of Mental Health

Stress, anxiety, uncontrolled anger, grief, and emotional disturbances are considered significant contributing factors in Ayurveda.

Seek treatment under the guidance of a qualified Ayurvedic physician.

Correct treatment methods, proper assessment, and high-quality medicines ensure safety and result.

🌿 Deep Tissue Pressure Massage Is Not the Right Way of Abhyangam(Ayurvedic Oil Massage)

Abhyangam(ayurvedic oil massage) is not meant to be done with force or pressure as demanded by individuals.
Our body contains many Marma points (vital energy centers) — some of which are connected with blood vessels, nerves, and muscles.
Applying excessive pressure or squeezing on these areas without proper knowledge can lead to immediate or long-term health issues.

The pressure and the type of oils are carefully decided by an Ayurvedic doctor.
After considering various factors such as body strength, health condition, constitution (Prakriti), and season.

Some people request their therapist to “press harder” or “apply more pressure.”
Such demands usually arise from a lack of understanding of how the human body actually works.

Having a basic awareness about one’s body is the first step toward proper healing.

Before undergoing treatments like Uzhichil or steam bath, both healthy individuals and patients should know a few essential things. Please read the following slides carefully.
