Why Chidambaram?
Chidambaram, meaning "Hall of Wisdom" or "Atmosphere of Wisdom," is also known as the "Ether of Consciousness," reflecting the temple's association with spiritual knowledge and enlightenment. There are five organic elements fundamental to the whole planet and there are five Civa holy places symbolizing each of these significant elements. Chidambaram is one amongst the 5 shrines and depicts infinite space - Consciousness. Chidambaram Tillai Nataraja emphasizes the formless and infinite nature of Civa.
Tirumular Citter, is deeply connected to Chidambaram before the Nataraja Temple was built. He worshiped Civa here. Tirumular is said to have seen Civa's cosmic dance, a vision that holds great significance in Caiva Ciddanta philosophy.
Tirumular is recognized as a Citter, a mistic and practitioner of ancient healing traditions. Tirumular's teachings and writings, including the Tirumantiram, are central to Caiva Ciddanta, offering insights into spiritual practices, the nature of Civa, and the path to liberation.
In the Tirumantiram, Tirumular emphazise on yogam calling it as Civa Yogam. Civa yogam deals with the individual soul with the removal of ignorance, once the wisdom dawns. It is also a method by which the soul identifies itself with Civa.
