Tatwaprakashini 2025: Bridging Classical Ayurvedic Wisdom with Contemporary Practice

As we conclude 2025, we reflect on our Academy's meaningful professional engagements, among which participation in 'Tatwaprakashini' stands out as a distinctive and transformative learning experience.

'Tatwaprakashini' is a premier advanced learning program in Ayurveda, hosted by AVP Ayurveda Hospital & Training Academy in Pathanjalipuri, Mangarai, Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. The name 'Tatwaprakashini'— meaning "to illuminate light"— encapsulates the program's core mission: illuminating the foundational principles that underpin Ayurvedic science. Through its rigorous annual 14-day curriculum, participants engage with the essential concepts and methodologies that form the backbone of authentic Ayurvedic practice.

A Legacy of Excellence in Ayurvedic Education

Established in 2000 as a not-for-profit initiative, Tatwaprakashini operates as the Centre for Advanced Learning at AVP Pathanjalipuri, honoring the time-honored gurukula educational model — the ancient teacher-student paradigm that emphasizes direct knowledge transfer and intellectual mentorship. This pedagogical approach deliberately bridges knowledge gaps for Ayurveda practitioners, students, and researchers, fostering a vibrant community of scholars dedicated to advancing Ayurvedic scholarship through both classical textual study and applied research methodologies.

The program attracts seasoned practitioners, academic researchers, and committed students from across India and internationally, all united in their pursuit of rigorous, evidence-based advancement of Ayurvedic science.

Our Contribution to the 2025 Edition

The 2025 edition (October 2-15) centered on Nidana — the sophisticated art and science of diagnostic methodology in Ayurveda. On October 14, 2025, our Founder and Chief Vethasatthi Expert, Prof. Dr. N. Shunmugom, delivered a lecture on "Reading the Body through Vethasatthi Science: Ancient Diagnostic Wisdom." The presentation explored the diagnostic methodologies preserved in our classical texts, examining their contemporary clinical relevance and practical applications in modern Ayurvedic practice.

Advancing Integrated Ayurvedic Knowledge

This engagement exemplifies Thirumoolar Vethasatthi Academy's commitment to advancing Ayurvedic scholarship through collaborative learning initiatives. By sharing Vethasatthi diagnostic insights alongside contemporary clinical methodology, we contribute to a larger movement that honors our intellectual heritage while strengthening Ayurveda's credibility through rigorous scholarship and applied research.

As the calendar year 2025 draws to a close, among the various programs in which Thirumoolar Vethasatthi Academy participated, the training conducted at the National Ayurveda Research Institute for Panchakarma (NARIP) is particularly noteworthy.

National Ayurveda Research Institute for Panchakarma (NARIP) is a 55-year-old premier institution under the Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences (CCRAS), Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India. NARIP conducts the Certificate Course in Marma Chikitsa (CCMC) for Ayurveda doctors twice a year at its Cheruthuruthy campus, and the 10th CCMC batch commenced on 6th October 2025.

Prof. Dr. N. Shunmugom, Chief Vethasatthi Expert, and Mr. Suresh Manoharan, Honorary Secretary, Thirumoolar Vethasatthi Academy, were invited to conduct training on Vethasatthi Maruthuvam [Vethasatthi Marma Chikitsa] for Ayurveda doctors on 27th, 28th and 29th October 2025. We are honoured and humbled to have been given the opportunity to share knowledge of Vethasatthi Maruthuvam, an ancient, independent indigenous Indian medical system, in all ten batches since the inception of the CCMC program.

This focused training in Vethasatthi Maruthuvam will greatly support Ayurveda doctors in enhancing their clinical outcomes, as they can effectively integrate Vethasatthi Maruthuvam with their existing Ayurvedic practice for the benefit of their patients.

வேதசத்தி மருத்துவமும் குடல்கள் சார்ந்த வேதிப்புள்ளிகளும்

வேதிப்புள்ளிகள் வெளிப்புற உடல் சார்ந்தவை மட்டும் அல்ல. உள் உடல் உறுப்பு சார்ந்த புள்ளிகளும் வேதிப்புள்ளிகளாக உள்ளன. உள்ளுறுப்புத் தொடர்புடைய புள்ளிகள் இல்லாவிட்டால், இது மருத்துவமாக இருக்கமுடியாது.

நாம் பள்ள வற்மம், பெருமாள் காலம், கைகட்டிக் காலம், சங்குத்திரி வற்மம், திரிவிசையன் காலம் போன்ற புள்ளிகளைக் காட்டியுள்ளோம். இதனை நூல் ஆதாரத்தை அடிப்படையாக வைத்துக் காட்டியுள்ளோம். இவை இன்று பல்வேறு வற்ம மருத்துவங்கள் செய்து வருகின்றன.

இவை தவிர உட்பெருங்குடல் வற்மம், சிறுகுடல் வற்மம், ஆழி வற்மம், தொங்குகுடல் வற்மம், அன்னக்கொடிக் காலம் எனப் பல்வேறு வேதிப்புள்ளிகள் குடலை வலுப்பெறச்செய்து வருகின்றன. இவற்றையெல்லாம் நம் கோவை அரி நிறுவனத்தில் மக்கள் சேவைக்குப் பயன்படுத்தப்பட்டு வருகின்றன.

உரிய காலத்தில் பிறராலும் இப்புள்ளிகள் வெளிப்படுத்தப்படும் என்பதில் ஐயமில்லை.

Indian Health Science in the mid-air medical emergency

On 22nd November 2025, during flight travel, a female passenger suddenly experienced unexplained giddiness and fainted. Although the cabin crew provided initial first aid, the passenger’s condition remained unstable, prompting a call for medical assistance.

Responding immediately, two Siddha physicians Dr. Elavarasan and Dr. Gowtham travelling on the same flight assessed the passenger and immediately applied emergency VaRmam treatment described in classical literatures. Within minutes, the passenger experienced significant relief, helping stabilize the situation smoothly.

Thirumoolar Vethasatthi Academy, Coimbatore and Arts Research Institute, Coimbatore jointly congratulate these doctors for their timely and compassionate service.

Among them, Dr. Ilavarasan has been learning the Vethasatthi VaRmam therapy methods in the Thirumoolar Vethasatthi Academy under Prof. Dr. N.Shunmugom, Chief Vethasatthi Expert, through the traditional gurukula system since 2010. He has mastered the intricate vaRmam techniques, including emergency management techniques of Adangal treatment, Thiravukool treatment, Ethirkaala thadaval treatment, Marukaala treatment, Sarva-anga treatment, and Vali nivaarana (pain relief) treatment through extensive hands-on training. His continued service is considered an asset to the Indian system of medicine.

Dr. Gowtham has completed the first and second-level Vethasatthi VaRmam therapy courses offered by the Thirumoolar Vethasatthi Academy . He has also studied Ethirkaala thadaval treatment and Vali nivaarana (pain relief) treatments offered by the Academy. Deeply devoted to his medical field, he joined the Academy in 2022, guided and introduced by Dr. Ilavarasan. Dr. Gowtham continues to seek knowledge from various masters of Siddha medicine to enhance his expertise.

On 29th Nov 2025, both these doctors visited the Thirumoolar Vethasatthi Academy and obtained the blessings of Prof. Dr. N.Shunmugom.

On 1st December 2025, The Secretary, Ministry of Ayush, Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha, met both of them personally in New Delhi and lauded their exemplary conduct and clinical acumen.

Since 1990, the Thirumoolar Gurukulam and Thirumoolar Vethasatthi Academy have been teaching VaRmam therapy through the traditional gurukula model. Those who learn this healing art with dedication, compassion, and respect for life receive the blessings and grace of the ancient Siddhars, Rishis, and Aasans.

The Academy extends heartfelt wishes that nature bless these two compassionate doctors with all forms of prosperity and abundance.

விமானத்தில் இந்திய மருத்துவ அறிவியல்

2025 நவம்பர் 22-ஆம் நாள் டில்லி - திருச்சி விமானப் பயணத்தில் ஒரு பெண் பயணி மயக்கமடைந்துள்ளார். அதே விமானத்தில் பயணித்த இரண்டு சித்த மருத்துவர்கள் வற்ம அவசர சிகிச்சை அளித்து அந்தப் பெண்ணுக்கு உடனடி சுகத்தைக் கொடுத்துள்ளனர்.

மருத்துவர் இளவரசனும் மருத்துவர் கெளதமும் இந்த சிகிச்சையை கொடுத்தவர்கள் ஆவர். இவர்கள் இருவரையும் கோவை திருமூலர் வேதசத்தி அகாடமி, கோவை கலைகளின் ஆய்வு நிறுவனமும் வாழ்த்துகிறது.

இவர்களுள் மருத்துவர் இளவரசன் அவர்கள் 2010 ஆண்டு முதல் இந்நிறுவனத்தில் வேதசத்தி வற்ம ஆய்வாளர் முனைவர் ந.சண்முகம் அவர்களிடம் குருகுல முறையில் வேதசத்தி வற்ம சிகிச்சை முறைகளைக் கற்று வருகிறார். இவர் வற்மக்கலையின் நுணுக்கங்கள், அவசர சிகிச்சை முறைகளான அடங்கல் சிகிச்சை, திறவுகோல் சிகிச்சை, எதிர்கால தடவல் சிகிச்சை, மறுகால சிகிச்சை, சர்வ அங்க சிகிச்சை, வலி நிவாரன சிகிச்சை ஆகிய அனைத்தையும் கைமுறை நேரடி பயிற்சியில் கற்றுத் தேர்ந்தவர். இவரது சேவை இந்திய மருத்துவ உலகிற்கு தேவை.

மருத்துவர் கெளதம் அவர்கள் திருமூலர் வேதசத்தி அகாடமி நடத்துகின்ற முதல் நிலை , இரண்டாம் நிலை வேதசத்தி வற்ம வகுப்பில் படித்துள்ளார். அதோடு எதிர்காலத் தடவல், வலிநிவாரன சிகிச்சை முறைகளையும் கற்றவராவார். இவர் தான் சார்ந்த மருத்துவத் துறையை நேசிப்பவர். இவர் 2022-ஆம் ஆண்டு நம் நிறுவனத்தில் இணைந்து கற்று வருகிறார். மருத்துவர் இளவரசன் இவரை நம் நிறுவனத்தில் இணைய வழிகாட்டியவராவார். இவர் சித்தமருத்துவத்தின் நுட்பங்களை பற்பல ஆசான்களைத் தேடி கற்று வருகிறார்.

2025 நவம்பர் 28-அன்று இரு மருத்துவர்களும் கோவை திருமூலர் வேதசத்தி அகாடமி வந்து, பேராசியர் முனைவர் ந.சண்முகம் அவர்களை நேரத்தில் சந்தித்து ஆசி பெற்றனர்.

திருமூலர் குருகுலமும் திருமூலர் வேதசத்தி அகாடமியும் வற்ம மருத்துவத்தை 1990-இல் இருந்து குருகுல முறையில் கற்பித்து வருகிறது. வற்ம மருத்துவத்தில் ஈடுபாடும் குருகுல சிரத்தையும் உயிர்கள் மேல் இரக்கமும் உள்ளவர்களுக்கு சித்தர்கள் ரிஷிகள் ஆசான்கள் அருளும் ஆசியும் உண்டு.

உயிர்கள் மேல் கருணை கொண்ட இவ்விரு மருத்துவர்களுக்கும் இயற்கை எல்லா வளங்களையும் கொடுக்கட்டும் என்று இந்நிறுவனம் வாழ்த்துகிறது.

Puruva Varmam: Question and Answer (2)

On 6th Aug 2025, I had posted on Facebook about "Why Puruva Varmam induces sleep".

Many people posted comments with their doubts. Mrs. Chitra Suresh had a question: "Is there written evidence for all these Vethasatthi treatments, or are they an oral tradition?"

Vethasatthi Varmam/ Marma does not discuss of anything without written references. For every Vethi point, there are texts available with detailed references concerning the external and internal anatomy, as well as the physiology related to that point.

Any treatment performed without textual references will fail when questioned by scholars.

Our institutions does not present or speak of anything publicly without written evidence

At the appropriate time, all the references will be revealed.

Shri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara (SDM) College of Ayurveda, Hospital and Research Centre, Udupi, Karnataka, has long been a beacon of Ayurvedic education and healthcare, renowned both nationally and internationally for its excellence.

SDM College of Ayurveda, Udupi has secured 2nd rank at All India Level in the MARBISM (Medical Assessment and Rating Board for Indian System of Medicine) and QCI (Quality Council of India) grading by the National Commission for Indian System of Medicine (NCISM). Ranked 1st in Karnataka, and also 1st among Private Institutions all over India in 2025.

The Department of PG studies in Kaumarabhritya, SDM College of Ayurveda, Hospital & Research Centre, Udupi is conducting "Certificate Course on Balapanchakarma" from 3rd October to 10th October 2025 for Ayurvedic doctors and students.

Vethasatthi Marma Chikitsa Workshop as capstone event for Marmayanam 2024-25

Marmayanam 2024-25, an insight into the practice of Marma Shastra, is a one-year Certification Course conducted by Vaidyaratnam Ayurveda Foundation, Thrissur, Kerala.

Vaidyaratnam Ayurveda Foundation is a constituent of the Vaidyaratnam Group of Institutions, which were established in 1924. Vaidyaratnam Group is helmed by the Thaikkattu Mooss family, renowned for their traditional knowledge of the Ashtavaidya tradition of Ayurveda and its association with Kerala Ayurveda which dates back to 19th century. Moreover, Vaidyaratnam Ayurveda Foundation is central government recognized Centre of Excellence in Ayurvedic Management of Chronic Joint Disorders.

As Marmayanam 2024-25 is coming to an end, as a capstone finale event, Vaidyaratnam Ayurveda Foundation has requested Thirumoolar Vethasatthi Academy to conduct 3-day workshop on “Vethasatthi Maruthuvam (Marma Chikitsa) – Level One” on 12th, 13th and 14th September 2025.

Accepting their request, under the guidance of Dr. N.Shunmugom, Founder and Chief Vethasatthi Expert, Thirumoolar Vethasatthi Academy, the 3-days workshop was conducted successfully and 52 Ayurveda doctors participated and benefitted through this workshop.
