Living in the Shadows: How DAVFs Can Tear Apart Lives and Love.

Dural arteriovenous fistulas (DAVFs) are abnormal connections between arteries and venous sinuses or veins in the brain. Symptoms can vary depending on the location and the pattern of DAVF, but they can include headaches, pulsatile tinnitus, neurological deficits,cognitive impairment and even seizures.

A 30 year old male patient suffering from headache, cognitive impairment, depression, and severe family and social issues due to an undiagnosed DAVF (Dural Arteriovenous Fistula) faced significant life challenges. His condition led to a year of unemployment, a divorce case, and a financial burden of paying compensation to his wife.

Upon arriving at our hospital, we accurately diagnosed the DAVF and successfully treated it with a minimally invasive endovascular procedure, leaving no scars. The patient was discharged after just 48 hours, free from headaches and other symptoms.

This case highlights the critical importance of ruling out organic causes in patients presenting with cognitive and psychological issues. Endovascular specialist plays a vital role in diagnosing and treating such conditions, providing effective solutions with minimal recovery time.

Stroke is the 2nd leading cause of death in India. It happens due to a blood clot in the blood vessel of the brain.

50 year old female presented to kmch with inability to talk and loss of power in right arm and leg since 2.5 hrs.her MRI showed a blood clot in one of the major vessels of the brain-the middle cerebral artery.

Since she presented early to hospital,the brain tertitory supplied by the occluded artery was still viable.

After a challenging 2 hour procedure,her blood vessel was successfully opened.she had regained ger ability to talk and mover her right upper and lower limb. Satisfying end result after a marathon procedure.

An aneurysm is a balloon like swelling in the blood vessel of the brain. If the aneurysm ruptures it can cause catastrophic brain damage.upto 1/3rd of patients who have a rupture do not survive till they reach the hospital.

So if any patients is found to have an aneurysm in brain, its better to treat it before it ruptures.

71 year old male with headache was found to have an aneurysm in anterior communicating artery of the brain.it was treated endovascularly without surgery by deploying platinum coils within the aneurysm. Even though headache is unrelated to the aneurysm,its better to treat these landmines within the brain before it ruptures.

When the blood vessel that goes to the brain gets narrowed, it can present as sudden loss of vision which lasts for a few minutes. At times. It can present with transit numbness or loss of power on one side of the body. These are extremely important warning, signs rush to interventional radiologist as soon as you can, he can not only make a proper diagnosis but also ensure that you are treated appropriately.

Stroke is loss of blood flow to a part of brain,which without timely intervention damages brain tissue.

We treated a 82 year old patient with sudden onset transient loss of consciousness who had occlusion of right vertebral and near total occlusion of left vertebral artery.

The condition if left untreated would ve led to sudden worsening of consciousness with risk to life.

He was treated with vertebral artery stent, without any surgery or anesthesia while the patient is awake.
