What to Expect from a Post-Fracture Rehab Program

Your physiotherapist will begin with a full assessment to understand your current mobility, pain levels, and goals. Your personalized post-fracture rehabilitation plan may include:

1. Pain Management and Swelling Control

In the early phase, gentle hands-on techniques, ice/heat therapy, electrical stimulation, and elevation help control inflammation and discomfort. Reducing pain early allows you to begin safe movement sooner.

2. Range of Motion and Joint Mobility

After immobilization, joints above and below the fracture often become stiff. Guided stretching and mobilization exercises help regain flexibility and prevent long-term stiffness or contractures.

3. Strengthening Exercises

Targeted exercises are introduced gradually to rebuild muscle strength. Weak muscles can lead to re-injury or chronic compensation patterns. We focus on functional movements like walking, lifting, and balance control.

4. Gait Training and Functional Rehab

If your fracture affected your leg, foot, or hip, you may need gait retraining. Using walkers or crutches improperly can delay healing. We’ll help you walk correctly, improve weight bearing, and restore your normal walking pattern.

5. Return to Activity Planning

Whether you’re returning to sports, work, or daily tasks, our goal is to ensure you move confidently and pain-free. We’ll guide you through graded return-to-activity protocols to prevent setbacks.

6. Return to Normal living.

After fracture many patients have difficulty with the getting better with the long term chronic pain, expert physiotherapist in the area of sensory rehabilitation (P-DTR) can provide long term relief.

What is Physiotherapy?

A common question for people that have never visited a physiotherapist is the very basic question of “What is Physiotherapy?”. Physiotherapy encompasses rehabilitation, injury prevention and health promotion/fitness. The profession employs a holistic approach to treatment, looking at the patient’s lifestyle and engaging them in their own treatment.

Physiotherapy Definition

Physiotherapy can be defined as a treatment method that focuses on the science of movement and helps people to restore, maintain and maximize their physical strength, function, motion and overall well-being by addressing the underlying physical issues.

Physiotherapists work in concert with other healthcare professionals, and physicians may recommend a course of physio after a surgery or injury(e.g., hip replacements) or such health issues as heart attacks or strokes.
