Dr D Parameswaran talks about the "Tips to lead a happy life with diabetes" video that will inform the general public

1. Set yourself achievable targets
There’s nothing worse than when your doctor tells you that your HbA1c, diet, weight or other lifestyle choices are not up to scratch, and then sets you daunting targets to get back on the right track.

If your blood sugar levels have recently been quite erratic, aim to assess why this is the case and what could be causing these fluctuations. Taking this extra time to work out why you may be having regular highs or lows can help regulate your glycemic control. Once you have found the cause, you can then focus on trying to keep your blood sugar levels within the target range.

2. Be in control
A 2013 survey of our Diabetes Forum members found that those with type 1 diabetes who felt more in control had fewer hypos and less anxiety over complications. There is no reason why these findings can’t be applied to type 2 diabetes.

3. Eat a healthy diet
Processed foods aren’t good for anyone. While the excess sugar in some processed foods can provide a short-term sense of pleasure, they are linked with poor long-term health and can be packed with harmful additives.

A healthy diet is essential for someone with diabetes – processed foods should feature as little as possible. If you regularly eat processed foods, set an achievable target to wean yourself off them.

4. Get regular exercise
We get it. Unless you enjoy exercise, it feels like more of a chore than normal household chores do. We’ve also heard all the reasons people don’t exercise: “I don’t have the time”, “Exercise doesn’t work for me” etc.

The bottom line, though, is that exercise is very good for you. It can improve blood sugar levels, help you lose weight and reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases.

5. Mindfulness
Mindfulness training can lead to greater quality of life for people with diabetes by addressing depression, stress and anxiety. It is a coping technique that can be particularly effective if you have recently been feeling overwhelmed regarding your diabetes management and can help steer you in a more positive direction.

Dr R Rajini talks about the "What is cervical cerclage and who has do cervical cerclage | Continuous abortion | Short cervix" video that will inform the general public

What is the cervix?
Your cervix is a muscular, tunnel-like organ. It’s the lower part of your uterus, and it connects your uterus and va**na. Sometimes called the “neck of the uterus,” your cervix plays an important role in allowing fluids to pass between your uterus and va**na. It enables a baby to leave your uterus so that it can travel through your va**na (birth canal) during childbirth. The cervix is also a common site for cell changes that may indicate cancer.

How to find cervical incompetence or short cervix
An incompetent cervix, also called a cervical insufficiency, occurs when weak cervical tissue causes or contributes to premature birth or the loss of an otherwise healthy pregnancy. Before pregnancy, your cervix — the lower part of the uterus that opens to the va**na — is normally closed and firm

Diagnose
Your doctor might diagnose an incompetent cervix if you have: A history of painless cervical dilation and second trimester deliveries. Advanced cervical dilation and effacement before week 24 of pregnancy without painful contractions, va**nal bleeding, water breaking (ruptured membranes) or infection

Types of cerclage
McDonald cerclage/Elective cerclage
Emergency cerclage
Abdominal cerclage

Dr S Senthilkumar talks about the "Newborn care tips for first time parents and how to avoid respiratory problems" video that will inform the general public

1. Take care of yourself
Resist the urge to count caffeine as a major food group or a substitute for sleep.

Instead, eat a healthy diet, drink plenty of water and get some fresh air. Sleep when the baby sleeps — and try to work out a nighttime schedule with your partner that allows both of you to rest and care for the baby. Good habits will help you maintain the energy you need to care for your newborn.

2. Establish visiting rules
Friends and loved ones might come out of the woodwork to admire your newborn. Let them know which days work best and how much time you have for a visit.

Insist that visitors wash their hands before holding the baby, and ask anyone who's ill to stay home.

Let trusted visitors care for the baby while you get some much needed rest.

3. Go with the flow
Allow plenty of time each day for nursing sessions, naps and crying spells. When you need to head out, give yourself extra time to pack your supplies and make that inevitable last-minute diaper change.

4. Expect a roller coaster of emotions
You might go from adoring your baby and marveling at tiny fingers and toes to grieving your loss of independence and worrying about your ability to care for a newborn, all in the space of an hour.

Chances are, you and your partner are both tired and anxious as well.

To help you stay connected, talk about what's bothering you — such as a strained budget or difficulty soothing the baby. A shared laugh might help lighten the mood.

5. Relax your standards
Leave dust bunnies where they lie for now. Store clean clothes in the laundry basket — or in stacks on the floor — until you need them. Clean the bathroom with a fresh diaper wipe. Serve cold cereal and peanut butter toast for dinner when you're too tired to prepare a more traditional meal.

Dr Tombabu talks about the "Diet plan for diabetic patient in Malayalam" video that will inform the general public

What is a diabetes diet?
A diabetes diet simply means eating the healthiest foods in moderate amounts and sticking to regular mealtimes.

A diabetes diet is a healthy-eating plan that's naturally rich in nutrients and low in fat and calories. Key elements are fruits, vegetables and whole grains. In fact, a diabetes diet is the best eating plan for almost everyone.

What does a diabetes diet involve?
A diabetes diet is based on eating three meals a day at regular times. This helps you better use the insulin that your body produces or gets through a medication.

A registered dietitian can help you put together a diet based on your health goals, tastes and lifestyle. He or she can also talk with you about how to improve your eating habits, such as choosing portion sizes that suit the needs of your size and activity level.

Healthy carbohydrates
During digestion, sugars (simple carbohydrates) and starches (complex carbohydrates) break down into blood glucose. Focus on healthy carbohydrates, such as:

Fruits
Vegetables
Whole grains
Legumes, such as beans and peas
Low-fat dairy products, such as milk and cheese
Avoid less healthy carbohydrates, such as foods or drinks with added fats, sugars and sodium.

Fibre-rich foods
Dietary fibre includes all parts of plant foods that your body can't digest or absorb. Fibre moderates how your body digests and helps control blood sugar levels. Foods high in fibre include:

Vegetables
Fruits
Nuts
Legumes, such as beans and peas
Whole grains

Dr Mathew Abraham talks about the "What is dementia in Malayalam" video that will inform the general public

What is Dementia?
A group of thinking and social symptoms that interferes with daily functioning.
Not a specific disease, dementia is a group of conditions characterised by impairment of at least two brain functions, such as memory loss and judgement.
Symptoms include forgetfulness, limited social skills and thinking abilities so impaired that it interferes with daily functioning.

Causes
Dementia is caused by damage to or loss of nerve cells and their connections in the brain. Depending on the area of the brain that's damaged, dementia can affect people differently and cause different symptoms.

Dementias are often grouped by what they have in common, such as the protein or proteins deposited in the brain or the part of the brain that's affected. Some diseases look like dementias, such as those caused by a reaction to medications or vitamin deficiencies, and they might improve with treatment.

Dr James Sebastian talks about the "Foot care for diabetic patients in Malayalam" video that will inform the general public

Why is foot care important?
If you have diabetes, nerve damage, circulation problems, and infections can lead to serious foot problems. However, you can take precautions to maintain healthy feet.

Managing your diabetes and maintaining a healthy lifestyle helps keep your feet healthy. This should include:

regular medical exams, including foot checks at every visit and checking your ABCs (A1c, blood pressure, and cholesterol)
monitoring your blood sugar daily
regular exercise
eating a balanced diet rich in fruits and vegetables
You can help prevent serious foot problems by following a good foot care regimen.

Daily foot care
Here are a few foot care habits you can adopt and try to do every day.

1. Inspect your feet
Check your feet and toes, inspecting the tops, sides, soles, heels, and the area in between the toes. If you’re physically unable to inspect your own feet, use a mirror or ask someone to help. Contact your doctor immediately if you discover any sores, redness, cuts, blisters, or bruises.

2. Wash your feet
Wash your feet every day in warm water with mild soap. Hot water and harsh soaps can damage your skin. Check the water temperature with your fingers or elbow before putting your feet in. Your diabetes may make it difficult to sense water temperature with your feet.

3. Dry your feet
Pat your feet to dry them and make sure to dry well. Infections tend to develop in moist areas, so make sure you dry the area between your toes well.

4. Moisturize dry skin
If the skin on your feet feels rough or dry, use lotion or oil. Do not use lotion between your toes.

Dr James Sebastian talks about the "What are the treatments for Diabetes in Malayalam" video that will inform the general public

Diabetes
Diabetes mellitus refers to a group of diseases that affect how the body uses blood sugar (glucose). Glucose is an important source of energy for the cells that make up the muscles and tissues. It's also the brain's main source of fuel.

The main cause of diabetes varies by type. But no matter what type of diabetes you have, it can lead to excess sugar in the blood. Too much sugar in the blood can lead to serious health problems.

Chronic diabetes conditions include type 1 diabetes and type 2 diabetes. Potentially reversible diabetes conditions include prediabetes and gestational diabetes. Prediabetes happens when blood sugar levels are higher than normal. But the blood sugar levels aren't high enough to be called diabetes. And prediabetes can lead to diabetes unless steps are taken to prevent it. Gestational diabetes happens during pregnancy. But it may go away after the baby is born.

Cholesterol
With type 2 diabetes, your body doesn't regulate or use glucose (sugar) the way it should. That can lead to too-high levels of glucose in your blood. High glucose levels can contribute to other health conditions, including high cholesterol.

Diet
vegetables
nonstarchy: includes broccoli, carrots, greens, peppers, and tomatoes
starchy: includes potatoes, corn, and green peas
fruits—includes oranges, melon, berries, apples, bananas, and grapes
grains—at least half of your grains for the day should be whole grains
includes wheat, rice, oats, cornmeal, barley, and quinoa
examples: bread, pasta, cereal, and tortillas
protein
lean meat
chicken or turkey without the skin
fish
eggs
nuts and peanuts
dried beans and certain peas, such as chickpeas and split peas
meat substitutes, such as tofu
dairy—nonfat or low fat
milk or lactose-free milk if you have lactose intolerance
yogurt
cheese

Dr Jithin S Kumar talks about the "Biopsy test for the kidney in Malayalam (Renal Biopsy)" video that will inform the general public

What is a biopsy?
A biopsy is a procedure to remove a piece of tissue or a sample of cells from your body so that it can be tested in a laboratory. You may undergo a biopsy if you're experiencing certain signs and symptoms or if your healthcare provider has identified an area of concern. A biopsy can determine whether you have cancer or another condition.

Imaging tests, such as CT scans or MRIs, are helpful in detecting masses or irregular tissue, but they alone can't tell the difference between cancerous cells and cells that aren't cancerous. For most cancers, the only way to make a diagnosis is to perform a biopsy to collect cells for closer examination.

Procedure of kidney biopsy
During a kidney biopsy, your doctor uses a needle to remove a small sample of kidney tissue for lab testing. The biopsy needle is inserted through your skin and is often directed using the guidance of an imaging device, such as ultrasound.

Complications of renal biopsy
Serious complications of kidney biopsy are not common. Less serious complications can occur and can include bleeding, pain, and the development of an abnormal connection between two blood vessels (a fistula). Rare complications include infection, damage to blood vessels or other organs, or urine leaks

Dr Padmakumar talks about the "Is diabetic reversal possible? | Reversing diabetes with bariatric surgery" video that will inform the general public

Diabetics
Diabetes mellitus refers to a group of diseases that affect how the body uses blood sugar (glucose). Glucose is an important source of energy for the cells that make up the muscles and tissues. It's also the brain's main source of fuel.

The main cause of diabetes varies by type. But no matter what type of diabetes you have, it can lead to excess sugar in the blood. Too much sugar in the blood can lead to serious health problems.

And prediabetes can lead to diabetes unless steps are taken to prevent it. Gestational diabetes happens during pregnancy. But it may go away after the baby is born.

Intragastric balloon
Intragastric balloon placement is a weight-loss procedure that involves placing a saline-filled silicone balloon in your stomach. This helps you lose weight by limiting how much you can eat and making you feel fuller and faster.

The intragastric balloon procedure may be an option if you have concerns about your weight, and diet and exercise haven't worked for you.

Like other weight-loss procedures, an intragastric balloon requires a commitment to a healthier lifestyle. You need to make permanent healthy changes to your diet and get regular exercise to help ensure the long-term success of the procedure.

Keyhole Surgery
Gastric bypass and other weight-loss surgeries — known collectively as bariatric surgery —involve making changes to your digestive system to help you lose weight. Bariatric surgery is done when diet and exercise haven't worked or when you have serious health problems because of your weight. Some procedures limit how much you can eat. Other procedures work by reducing the body's ability to absorb nutrients. Some procedures do both.

While bariatric surgery can offer many benefits, all forms of weight-loss surgery are major procedures that can pose serious risks and side effects. Also, you must make permanent healthy changes to your diet and get regular exercise to help ensure the long-term success of bariatric surgery.
