Saadhya

Saadhya Saadhya is a school with a vision of mainstreaming children with special needs. The primary mission is to enable these children to lead independent lives.

The learning abilities are unique to each individual. In an ideal world all children of a particular age group must be taught in the same classroom in an inclusive environment. However some children’s learning needs are special and they require a more focussed setting. We at Saadhya strive to create this setting for the children with special needs. We welcome children with learning and developmental disabilities as day students

Vision:
To transform children with special needs independent, confident and skilled citizens

Saadhya's pandemic diary is filled with events. The August month of 2020 was overflowing with festivals and we loved celebrating all of them. In fact, the festivity began on the 3rd and went all the way to the end of August.

It all started with Bakrid on the 3rd of August. Our kids wished each other, Rasheed and his mom Majida had prepared sweet.

The next day, on 4th, we celebrated Rakhee, to assure their strong support to each other. They had prepared organic Rakhee using grains and pulses which was tied to their near and dear one and exchanged gifts.

On the 11th it was Krishnashtami. Children dressed up like Radhe and Krishna. They made sweet awal. A delicious dish which is believed to be Krishna's favourite.

On 15th we celebrated Independence Day showcasing patriotism. Children made our national flag with kolam powder, they made delicious and nutritious tricoloured Dosa. We sang the national anthem.

On 21st we celebrated Ganesha chathurthi. Children wore traditional dress made mouse puppets and sweet modaka, a favourite dish of Lord Ganesha.

On 28th we celebrated Onam. Children made beautiful pookolam and unni appam, a delicious kerala dish. Children sang and danced around the kolam.

We felt that the month of August quickly passed by and it was filled with joy, celebrations and it gave lots and lots of exposure to our kids and enhanced their skills. We could bring out a series of hidden talent from parents especially Mothers.

We are eagerly awaiting the next celebrations in the coming months of 2020.

The pandemic has taught us a lot of new lessons. We learnt how we can be united and virtually celebrate and continue our work without missing anything. I congratulate all the teachers, parents and children who involved themselves in every activity that was suggested.

Thank you all.

To cope with the COVID 19 pandemic and the lockdown, we, at Saadhya, have been conducting online therapy sessions for our little ones. As much as our children miss attending school, we miss the children's delightful presence. Here we are, bringing some smiles on their faces..

Online classes for our children!

COVID 19 has made us look for alternative teaching methods which we previously thought would not serve our purpose!

And here we are conducting online classes and therapies for the children of our school - all from the safety of our homes! We must indeed thank the technology that has kept us connected during these dangerous times!

Here is the feedback from parents of Aadesh, Manasa and Gautham about the online classes.

We are happy that our children's learning hasn't been affected due to this lockdown!

Saadhya celebrated the fourth Annual day on 7th March 2020. Children and staff worked hard for a month to bring out the best performance from our kids.

The annual report detailed every activity that was conducted during this year. Children performed a dance number which was taught by Wilson sir. A sample of music therapy was showcased. Music and movement activities were done by Mithun and Adith Raghav.

This year's highlight was Mothers dancing for the song 'Singa Penne'. After attending dance and movement therapy along with kids they were able to shed their shyness and agony. They were able to come out of their shells and become close friends and plan outings. They turned out to be great supporters for each other. This was the happiest moment for Saadhya, a beautiful feather on our cap!

Finally, there was a drama depicting the importance of agriculture. Every child performed perfectly well. A special mention to our hero, Master Mithun. His performance was greatly appreciated by the audience. This was the first time we could make-our kids enact for half an hour in this Drama. It was gripping and wonderful.

The program ended with a vote of thanks and National anthem. This was a day to cherish.

We brought an oil extraction machine!

What is this machine doing at Saadhya? Well, at Saadhya, our ultimate goal is to prepare children with special needs to lead their lives with dignity, self-reliance and independence. In this process, they become productive citizens and can lead comfortable lives in our society.

Saadhya’s holistic approach will enable children to learn life skills and daily living skills. Additionally, they will need vocational skills to earn a living and stand on their feet.

So, how does the oil extraction machine help? We have identified oil extraction as a way of earning for our children. This machine portable, simple to use and most importantly, it is safe. We have chosen a few children for the first batch and training them to extract oil from the machine.

The children are fascinated and excited to learn and execute the task. We hope in due course all the children in our school will become independent in handling the machine and extract oil.

Travelling is such a joyful experience. Train travel is more comfortable and enjoyable.

It was time to give an experience of Train journey to our kids at Saadhya. We travelled to the railway station by town bus and boarded Mettupalyam train. We wanted our children to learn about Railways.

Children learnt about railway station, platform, how to buy tickets, getting in to train and travel. Except for Lingesh, all other children enjoyed the journey. They were jumping with joy and singing Merrily. It was a nice trip.

Health check-ups at Saadhya

Saadhya had organized eye check-up in collaboration with Shankar's eye Hospital on December 18th 2019. All the children, the staff of Saadhya and staff of Surabhi build mart underwent this check-up. We sincerely thank Shankara eye hospital staff for conducting this.

Two children and one of our staff were identified for treatment.

On January 4th 2020 we organized a Dental check-up for our kids in our school premises. Dr Suganthi conducted the check-up despite her busy schedule. She identified kids having dental cavities and other dental related problems. She counselled parents for treatment procedures and general dental hygiene. We sincerely thank Dr Suganthi for this.

A proud day for us at Saadhya..

Three children from our school, Aarushna Kanna, Aadesh Patrick and Manasa along with their parents participated in the Special Walkathon organised by. Kaumaram Prashanthi Academy

The theme was "Defeat The Difference." - Making every one walk together was one good step taken to integrate special kids along with the mainstream population.

Our children woke up early in the morning and were present in the venue before time. They enjoyed walking along and finally getting the medal. This time they walked for one kilometre, but they are determined to walk five kilometres next year!

FIELD TRIP TO MARUDHAMALAI

We at Saadhya believe that “Our school is the temple and children are our deities”. Still, we decided to visit Marudamalai for this month’s field trip because it is situated on a beautiful hillock on the Western Ghats. The mountain range holds the Murugan temple like a floral bunch with luscious greenery as the backdrop. There are ample Marudha Maram (Terminalia Arjuna trees) around on this hillock, hence it has got the name Marudha malai.

All arrangements were made to reach Marudamalai. All our children were able to climb the steps and reach, one of the oldest temple complexes. It is believed that it was first built by the Sangam kings in the twelfth century. Recently they have extended the temple and modified according to the needs of the pouring devotees. The view, the flora fauna around the temple campus, the ride climbing up and down the hillock were all very pleasant.

Our children were able to go around to all the installed Idols, follow the norms of the temple, take Arathi, theertham, prasadam given by the priests. Few of our kids were singing devotional songs while walking, which they had learnt by their parents. They knew when to sing those songs. On the topmost area, we stood to look around and identify the tiny looking road, buildings and the moving vehicles. They were calm and happy to walk in the temple, patient enough to go in queue and participate in the ritualistic activities. We selected a calm place to sit and have snacks.

After clicking a few photos, we were ready to leave, by then we came to know that one of our vehicle’s tyre was punctured. The driver went down the hill to get it repaired. We are proud to say that all our kids waited patiently without any tantrums for almost one hour. We sat in a place with shade and kept them occupied with some activities.
We returned back to school almost an hour late.

We apologised all the Parents for the inconveniences occurred by the unavoidable delay. They had to wait for a long time for us to return. In fact, we are thankful to Bharath’s father who volunteered and said he was ready to help us in case we needed any help. Promptly, our vehicle got ready and with fewer hassles and we were able to complete our field trip successfully.

The start of a Saadhya was a turning point in Champa Jaiprakash's life. In her talk at Mandram @ Coimbatore a few weeks ago, she narrates her and Saadhya's journey. As Mandram rightly points out, Champa upholds the symbol of Saadhya- “It’s Possible”.
