Let's talk about Sudden Sensorineural Hearing Loss(SSHL).the basics

What is it?
🔹SSHL is a rapid loss of hearing occurring instantly or over the span of a few days. This typically occurs in only one ear.
🔹A loss of 30 dB or greater in at least 3 or more continous test frequencies in at least one ear.
🔹An estimated 4,000 individuals in the U.S experience this conditions .

Causes :

🔹The cause of SSNHL is often unknown

🔹May also be due to
* Infections
* Autoimmune Diseases
* Head Trauma
* Medication
* Neurologic Conditions
* Blood circulation problems
* Meniere's

Signs & Symptoms :

*Muffled or loss of hearing , often noticed upon waking up.
* A loud "popping " sound preceding the hearing loss.
* Ear fullness
*Tinnitus
*Dizziness

Treatment

*SSNHL is considered a medical emergency and one should contact their medical provider as soon as possible.

*Many people wait to seek medical attention , however, delayed treatment increases your risk for permanent hearing loss .

This is Mrigesh (2yr/M) came to us 6 month ago with the complaint of unable to speak and hear . So we did OAE which came refer so we did BERA&ASSR that shows that mrigesh has severe to profund hearing loss in both ear. so we did counsel him for Hearing Aid and Speech therapy. They did buy Hearing Aid from us but when it came to speech therapy they had doubt on it.. So they bought Hearing Aid & went to bangaluru for further consultation. But in bangaluru also they told them to do speech therapy and send them to kolkata (AYJNIHH). And in kolkata also they said the same thing . So after roaming 4months here and there they again came to us 2 month ago for speech therapy ..and here is the glimpse of Mrigesh's pre and post therapy video..


(Why we are talking about this r8 now is many of them are not aware that after Hearing Aid what's next? And they have doubt on speech therapy as they never seen progress or may be due to lack of professional over here or lack of awareness. So we urge people that if you found someone who have issues with hearing and speech do not delay they can or they might speak because of early intervention. So bring the change in some ones life.. C/O - ASD(Diagnosed by our psychologist)
Came to us on 20/12/22 with the complaint of unable to speak, zero sitting tolerance and not following any command.
After one month he got discharged yesterday as they are moving to Delhi soon.. But now In just one month with the help of our rehab team(Speech therapist, Psychologist and Occupational therapist) he can speak phrases and started following command etc ..
