Case Highlight – Non-Surgical Recovery Through Ayurveda
An elderly female patient presented with severe knee pain, significant muscle weakness, and loss of independent mobility. Despite painkillers and injections, her condition worsened, and knee surgery was advised based on clinical findings.
Due to associated lumbar spine degeneration, ligament injury, and marked weakness of the thigh and calf muscles, the patient became wheelchair-bound and was unable to walk independently.
She underwent a 9-day structured inpatient Ayurvedic treatment program at Shree Vallabh Ayurveda Ashram, Dapoli, India.
Ayurvedic Interventions Included:
• Therapeutic oil massage (Abhyanga) using a proprietary medicated oil • Janu Dhara and Kati Basti for knee and lumbar support • Shirodhara for neuromuscular relaxation • Basti therapy • Internal herbal formulations to improve strength and joint stability • Guided therapeutic exercises • Personalized Ayurvedic diet
Outcome:
Within 9 days, the patient showed: • Significant reduction in pain • Improved muscular strength • Restoration of independent walking
The patient, who arrived wheelchair-bound, was discharged walking independently, successfully avoiding surgical intervention.
👉 This case demonstrates that a time-bound, well-structured Ayurvedic approach can serve as a viable non-surgical option, even in conditions where surgery appears inevitable.
