                                            🌎 WORLD 🧠 BRAIN DAY
Acupuncture is a traditional Chinese medicine practice that involves stimulating specific points on the body (known as acupoints) to promote healing and balance energy flow (Qi). For brain health, acupuncture is often used to enhance memory, focus, mental clarity, and mood, and to manage conditions like anxiety, depression, insomnia, or stroke recovery.
Here are key acupuncture points for brain health :
1. DU20 (Baihui / Hundred Meetings)
Location: At the crown of the head, where a line from the top of the ears crosses the midline of the skull.
Function: Calms the mind, lifts energy, improves memory and mental clarity, and treats headaches and dizziness.
Use for: Mental fatigue, brain fog, depression, anxiety, stroke rehabilitation.
2. Yintang (Hall of Impression)
Location: Between the eyebrows (often called the "third eye").
Function: Calms the spirit, improves concentration, relieves stress and anxiety.
Use for: Insomnia, anxiety, emotional stress, and overthinking.
3. DU24 (Shenting / Spirit Courtyard)
Location: On the midline of the head, 0.5 cun (about half an inch) behind the hairline.
Function: Clears the mind, calms the spirit, enhances memory.
Use for: Insomnia, anxiety, poor memory, epilepsy.
4. GB20 (Fengchi / Wind Pool)
Location: Below the base of the skull in the hollows on either side of the neck.
Function: Clears the head, treats headaches and dizziness, improves circulation to the brain.
Use for: Headaches, neck pain, blurred vision, mental stress.
5. HT7 (Shenmen / Spirit Gate)
Location: On the wrist crease, near the pinky side.
Function: Nourishes the heart and calms the mind.
Use for: Insomnia, anxiety, palpitations, emotional instability.
6. KI1 (Yongquan / Gushing Spring)
Location: On the sole of the foot, in the depression formed when the foot is plantar-flexed.
Function: Grounds the mind, clears heat, and revives consciousness.
Use for: Anxiety, agitation, insomnia, and mental restlessness.
7. SI3 (Houxi / Back Stream)
Location: On the side of the hand, just behind the knuckle of the pinky finger.
Function: Opens the Governing Vessel (Du Mai), which influences the brain and spine.
Use for: Headaches, neck stiffness, epilepsy, calming the spirit.
How It Works (Western View):
While Traditional Chinese Medicine focuses on energy flow, Western studies suggest acupuncture may affect:
Neurotransmitter regulation (like serotonin and dopamine)
Blood flow to the brain
Reduction of inflammation
Modulation of the nervous system (e.g., parasympathetic activation)
Note:
For brain-related issues like stroke recovery, cognitive decline, ADHD, or depression, acupuncture should be used in conjunction with conventional treatment and under the guidance of a licensed acupuncturist or healthcare provider.
