How it Works:
1. Preparation: You will be asked to sit up and lean forward or lie on your side with your knees pulled up.
2. Numbing: An anesthesiologist cleans your back and uses a local anesthetic to numb a small area of skin.
3. Insertion: A needle is used to insert a thin, flexible tube (catheter) into the "epidural space" just outside the spinal cord. The needle is then removed, and the tube stays in place.
4. Medication: Pain-relieving medicine is delivered through the tube. It usually takes about 10–20 minutes to take full effect.
