July 14 marks National Psychologist Appreciation Day, an occasion that currently receives limited recognition.
So, I decided to sit down yesterday with myself because acknowledgement begins from “self” just like charity begins at home.
I recalled instances where I had forgotten to give myself enough appreciation for the significant mental efforts invested in my practice. It is common for psychologists to downplay their accomplishments, attributing them to merely fulfilling their professional obligations and saying “It’s my job to do it”.
On a more note, I also reflected on moments when I did express towards myself and I gained a deeper understanding of the importance of self-appreciation as a means of rejuvenation and resilience.
What made my ? When I received a text from one of my students wishing me “Happy National Psychologist Day ma’am” and I had a big smile on my face.
Whether we have crossed paths in , , , , or through , I want to each and every one of you for the remarkable you have become. Your contributions in this field are truly valued. You are important. You are loved. You are appreciated. You Matter.
