Patient with LRTI Age 55 yrs Chest physiotherapy follows with
* Vibration & Percussion - Percussion and vibration help loosen and move mucus and secretions from the lungs and airways. A strong cough can be induced after this procedure in order to spill out the mucus.
*Breathing Exercises- 1. Diaphragmatic- keep one hand on chest and other on stomach this can be done in lying as well as sitting position then Slowly inhale from your nose so that your stomach moves out against your hand. The hand on chest should remain still and then slowly exhale from mouth.
2 segmental breathing exercises - in this the hands are kept on different segments first hand cross the shoulder for upper lobe repeat the same procedure of breathing as discussed in diaphragmatic breathing that is slowly inhale from nose let your lungs expand below your hand and then slowly exhale from mouth.
Next, keep your hand by your sides as shown in 4 picture this type of segmental breathing is for lower lobes and then slowly inhale from your nose and let your chest expand below your hands and slowly exhale from mouth.
* Spirometer- A spirometer is an apparatus for measuring the volume of air inspired and expired by the lungs.
Spirometer is kept at the mouth level of patient and the patient is asked to keep the mouth piece in his/her mouth and asked to relax and do the complete inhalation from mouth the balls present in spirometer will move upward and we will ask patient to repeat it for 3 times to take accurate readings.
Next we will turn the spirometer upside down to measure for exhalation same pattern is followed.
