Is there a link between psoriatic arthritis and hip pain?

Psoriatic arthritis (PsA) is a chronic autoimmune arthritis that affects people with the skin condition psoriasis. It can cause inflammation in both small and large joints and, in rare cases, the spine. This means PsA can sometimes cause hip pain.

đź”·Pain, swelling, and tenderness over tendons
đź”·Swollen fingers and toes
đź”·Fatigue
đź”·Pain, throbbing, and stiffness in one or more joints
đź”·Changes in nails, such as pitting or separation from the nail bed
đź”·Reduced range of motion
đź”·A skin rash, although there is little connection between the severity of psoriasis and the severity of PsA

Anterior uveitis, also known as iritis, is a type of uveitis that primarily affects the front part of the eye, specifically the iris and the ciliary body. It can cause various symptoms, which may include:

Eye Pain: Anterior uveitis typically causes eye pain, which can range from mild discomfort to severe and throbbing pain. The pain is often described as a deep ache in or around the affected eye.

Redness: The eye may appear red or bloodshot due to inflammation of the blood vessels in the eye.

Light Sensitivity (Photophobia): Individuals with anterior uveitis often become sensitive to light and may experience discomfort or pain when exposed to bright lights or even normal room lighting.

Blurred Vision: Vision can become blurred or cloudy in the affected eye. This blurriness is typically due to the inflammation affecting the clear front part of the eye.

Increased Tearing: Some people with anterior uveitis may experience excessive tearing or watering of the affected eye.

Small Pupil: The affected eye's pupil (the black center part of the eye) may become smaller and may not respond properly to changes in light levels.

Eye Discharge: In some cases, there may be a discharge from the affected eye, which can be clear or slightly cloudy.

Floaters: Some individuals may notice floating specks or spots in their field of vision. These are often caused by inflammatory cells or debris in the eye's fluid.

It's important to note that anterior uveitis can vary in severity, and not everyone with this condition will experience all of these symptoms. If you experience any of these symptoms, especially eye pain and light sensitivity, it is essential to seek prompt medical attention from an eye specialist (ophthalmologist). Anterior uveitis can be a sign of an underlying medical condition or infection that may require treatment to prevent complications and preserve vision.

5 Ways to Manage Osteoarthritis and Rheumatoid Arthritis in Cold Weather

In cold weather conditions, some blood flow is diverted from our extremities to the critical organs of our core, such as our heart and lungs. This results in reduced blood flow to our joints, which can cause stiffness and pain.

1. Keep Head, Hands, and Feet Covered to Manage Arthritis

Arthritis Management: Follow These 7 Tips In Winter If You Have Arthritis

1. Eat right: Many individuals with rheumatoid arthritis may experience flare-ups if they overindulge in rich and sugary foods over the holidays.

2. Layer up: One of the best ways to lessen discomfort is to keep those sore joints warm.

3. Drink ample water: We could become more painfully sensitive when dehydrated. One of the key components of controlling arthritis is staying hydrated.

4. Manage stress: While there isn't enough evidence to say that stress aggravates arthritis, it can lead to people overburdening their bodies.

5. Stay active: Effective management of arthritis pain is aided by keeping a healthy weight and staying active.

6. Take medication: Taking the proper advice from medical professionals is essential in controlling the condition. Your arthritis becomes worse and you're more likely to get osteoarthritis if you don't get enough vitamin D.

7. Get good sleep: Your body benefits greatly from a good night's sleep, which can also make managing your arthritis easier.

What is psoriatic arthritis?

Psoriatic arthritis is a type of arthritis linked with psoriasis, a chronic skin and nail disease. Psoriasis causes red, scaly rashes and thick, pitted fingernails. Psoriatic arthritis is similar to rheumatoid arthritis (RA) in symptoms and joint swelling (inflammation). But it tends to affect fewer joints than RA. And it does not make the typical RA antibodies. The arthritis of psoriatic arthritis comes in 5 forms:

1. Arthritis that affects the small joints in the fingers, toes, or both
2. Asymmetrical arthritis of the joints in the hands and feet
3. Symmetrical polyarthritis, which is similar to RA
4. Arthritis mutilans, a rare type of arthritis that destroys and deforms joints
5. Psoriatic spondylitis, arthritis of the lower back (sacroiliac sac) and the spine

6 Main Causes of Morning Back Pain

Inflammatory back pain: pathological inflammation from autoimmune disease, which is often serious, relatively rare, and fairly well known.

Inflammaging: slow but steady increase in chronic mild inflammation as we age.

Myofascial pain syndrome and/or fibromyalgia: back pain is often the hot spot in the body for muscle pain and otherwise unexplained widespread aches and pains, and there are some reasons why these conditions may be worse in the morning, but they are mysterious and controversial.

Insomnia and poor quality sleep is, of course, the most basic explanation for morning back pain. A good night of sleep is an effective painkiller, and a lousy one is the opposite.

Osteomalacia (vitamin D deficiency): vitamin D deficiency is probably quite common, is linked to chronic pain, and morning bone aching in particular.

Awkward sleeping postures: although this is the most “obvious” reason for waking up with a kink in your back, it might be worse than you expect.
