Benefits Physiotherapy
Although healing of many musculoskeletal conditions cannot be accelerated, it can be optimized. With musculoskeletal injuries, a physiotherapist can ensure that proper protection is provided when needed, and that movement and strengthening are introduced appropriately and in a manner that will not induce further injury. Physiotherapists are able to treat and reduce pain, while optimizing function for return to work or sport.
Regarding the cardio respiratory domain, physiotherapists are beneficial in many conditions as they are able to optimize respiratory function, so that clients are better able to manage their lives with breathing issues. Physiotherapists teach breathing exercises and proper coughing techniques so that clients are able to clear secretions, take deep breaths, and prevent respiratory infections, such as pneumonia.
In neurological conditions, physiotherapists help clients with chronic conditions (such as multiple sclerosis or cerebral palsy) to maintain function and independence for as long as possible. They also help clients to relearn and recover function and movement following strokes, spinal cord injuries, and brain injuries. They are involved in teaching clients new movement strategies if complete recovery is not possible
