Meet Saif from Iraq, a young boy who faced Meningomyelocele, leading to a flail right foot and a severe clubfoot on the left with a torsional deformity of the femur. Walking was a major challenge for him. But Saif and his family didn’t lose hope! ✨

They traveled to India for corrective surgeries, and today, his gait pattern has significantly improved! Both his feet are now braceable, and he is walking much better, overcoming his underlying weakness with determination and courage. 💪👣

Revolutionizing Pediatric Hip Surgery with the SUPERHIP Approach

This 6-year-old girl with Arnold Chiari malformation and Meningomyelocele (MMFC2) recently underwent revision surgery for bilateral neuropathic dislocated hips in stages. Over the past two years, I have adopted the SUPERHIP approach, a technique that has completely transformed my understanding of pediatric hip reconstruction.

Compared to the traditional anterior approach, the SUPERHIP technique provides unparalleled exposure, making it especially valuable in revision cases. I now routinely use this approach for dislocated hips, allowing me to integrate Ligamentum Teres reconstruction, which adds an extra layer of joint stability. This eliminates the need for wires within the pediatric hip and, most importantly, avoids the dreaded hip spica, making recovery easier for young patients.

Having had the privilege of learning this technique from Dr Dror Paley himself, I have found it to be a versatile and effective solution for all ages and all types of DDH. The Paley group Paley Orthopedic & Spine Institute Paley Institute Support Group and Discussion is currently working on publishing this approach, and I am confident that it will soon become the standard practice for late-presenting and neglected developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH).
